French pharmacy bottles to flush out collectors

French pharmacy bottles, sterling silver, crystal and a large collection of Dresden and Wedgwood porcelain are among a range of interesting collectables at E.J. Ainger’s forthcoming weekly sale from 9.30am Tuesday June 7 at 433 Bridge Road, Richmond.

The auction includes items from several estates and private consignments throughout Melbourne including Hawthorn, Toorak and Balwyn.

Among the furniture on offer is a John Broadwood and Sons grand piano and a range of Victorian, Edwardian and 1920s furniture.

Unusual piano in auction furniture bonus

A rare English flame mahogany cased horizontal piano on carved cabriole legs leads the auction items at E.J. Aingers forthcoming weekly sale from 9.30am Tuesday May 31 at 433 Bridge Road, Richmond.

The auction, which contains the residual contents of estates and private consignments throughout Melbourne and Bendigo, also features a plank and formal dining room suite and set of 12 chairs among the French and English furniture on offer.

There is a superb Victorian carved flame mahogany four-door sideboard and chest of drawers and several new leather and fabric lounge suites.

Lost Buckmaster self-portrait a lucky auction find

A 1960 self-portrait of Australian artist Ernest Buckmaster has been discovered as the backing for another of his paintings earmarked for auction at E.J. Ainger’s two-day special sale from 11am Saturday May 21 and Sunday May 22 at 433 Bridge Road, Richmond.

Discovered by the restorer who was busy cleaning the auction painting for Aingers (a seascape of Mentone – where Buckmaster lived during the 1930s and 1940s), the self-portrait has been fitted to a canvas, mounted in a beautiful period frame and also will be part of the sale.

Sealed storeroom items add to auction mystique

The contents of an enormous storeroom sealed since 2003 has added an air of mystique to E.J. Ainger’s forthcoming weekly sale from 9.30am Tuesday May 3 at 433 Bridge Road, Richmond.

Luxurious lounge, dining and sitting room, and bedroom furniture are among the items along with gilded and decorative mirrors and rugs.

There also are Chesterfield settees, a superb Victorian exhibition display cabinet, bookcases, a cedar four-door sideboard, and large extension tables and chairs.

Estate furnishings a big auction attraction

Estate furnishings from Melbourne suburbs and country Victoria are the highlight of E.J. Ainger’s forthcoming auction from 9.30am Tuesday April 12 at 433 Bridge Road, Richmond.

The auction includes the residual contents of a Harcourt Street, Hawthorn home, a Camberwell residence and a retired Brunswick antique dealer’s stock.

Other properties of note are a country cherry farm in Seville and a Shepparton home.
