Melbourne philanthropist and lifelong arts lover collection up for grabs
Auction goers will have the opportunity to see the late Suzanne Cecil’s personal collection at her magnificent Toorak home for more than two days before Mossgreen transfers all the items to its rooms at 926-930 High Street, Armadale for auction from 2.30pm Sunday May 15.
Descended from Henry Buck – one of Melbourne’s most distinguished and recognised family names – Sue was actively involved in the family retail business, but had a lifelong passion for painting and the arts.

The result is a sale over which auction goers and collectors should be rubbing their hands with glee.
A major highlight is an important palatial Ming Dynasty carved polychrome Quan Yin and a fine collection of jewellery and sterling silver.

Phar Lap program collection auction for serious collectors
Although he won his last race 85 years ago before dying tragically from suspected poisoning, Phar Lap is still regarded as the most famous racehorse in Australian history.
Now, a unique collection of racing programs portraying much of Phar Lap’s racing career, will be auctioned from 9.30am Tuesday May 10 by Mossgreen at 926-930 High Street, Armadale.
The collection belongs to Californian Gary Madeiros who grew up near Menlo Park, where Phar Lap died, and was always fascinated by his story.

Sealed storeroom items add to auction mystique
The contents of an enormous storeroom sealed since 2003 has added an air of mystique to E.J. Ainger’s forthcoming weekly sale from 9.30am Tuesday May 3 at 433 Bridge Road, Richmond.
Luxurious lounge, dining and sitting room, and bedroom furniture are among the items along with gilded and decorative mirrors and rugs.
There also are Chesterfield settees, a superb Victorian exhibition display cabinet, bookcases, a cedar four-door sideboard, and large extension tables and chairs.

Unique single collection to attract special art auction lovers
Richard Boland holds a unique place among single owner Australian art collectors whose works are now going to auction.
While many serious collectors work with advisers and dealers to obtain well-known quality pieces often to maximise investment potential, Boland’s main motivation for purchasing a work was its intrinsic visual appeal.
This might have reflected his work in the early years of television when pioneers were still learning about the importance of visual methods of communication.

Mossgreen art auction features works from several eras
Mossgreen’s head of Australian art Frances Lindsay highlights the opening lot – John Brack’s Cold Figure 1960 – as an example of the quality of the sale in the lead up to the company’s two-day fine Australian and International Art auction from 6.30pm on Monday May 2 at 926-930 High Street, Armadale.
“The painting has all the characteristics that make Brack a wonderful artist including his ability to capture the essence of humanity,” she said.
In this work, he depicts a thin woman dressed in several layers of jumpers with a scarf snugly encircling her neck.

Clearing sale to appeal to rural auction goers
Droves of rural auction goers are expected to attend auctioneer Steve Graham’s clearing sale at “Wyandah” Glenn Drouitt Road, Mount Macedon from 10am Sunday May 1.
The sale has many highlights including a Kubota L3400 tractor (with Burder front end loader), Caroni mulcher mower and a 17.5-foot Reef Craft Double Hull boat on a tilting trailer.
Other items to attract buyers include a Billy Goat industrial and garden shelf propelled vacuum, Kawasaki Bayou quad bike, electric log splitter, Echo chainsaw and a Honda E2500 generator.

Furniture and art to satisfy auction goers
A Cutler desk, Cuban mahogany extension dining table, French style chairs, and Dutch style bureau bookcase are among reproduction and contemporary furniture highlights at E.J. Ainger’s forthcoming weekly auction from 9.30am Tuesday April 19 at 433 Bridge Road, Richmond.
Many of the auction items are from several estates in Glen Iris, Armadale, Kew and Camberwell.
The auction contains several retro teak sideboards, dining room suites, a leather Moran settee and leather chairs alongside a range of Victorian, Edwardian and 1920s furniture.

International decorative arts auction heralds new Mossgreen era
When Mossgreen’s head of international and decorative arts Jenny Gibson climbs the podium at 4pm Sunday April 17 to start the company’s first three-day International Decorative Arts auction, it will signal a new era in its auctioneering procedures – the inaugural evening-day sales.
These replace the former quarterly sales and will be held three times a year – April/May, July/August and November.

Ancient Chinese figures, sterling silver and French sculptor to bring auction crowds
The owner has lived in the same house at 15 Edwin Street, Templestowe for more than 40 years and in that time built up an extensive collection of antique furniture, paintings and collectables.
He has now moved overseas and asked Kim’s Auctions to auction the contents of the home.
The auction, which will be held on site from 11am Sunday April 17, features Chinese terra cotta figures from the Tan Dynasty (618-906AD) including a lady and a horse.
