Mini camp stove a reminder of Mt Everest tragedy
A mini camp stove especially adapted for extreme altitudes and weather conditions – and used in 1933 in the hunt for missing Mt Everest explorers George Mallory and Andrew Irvine – will be part of a special Steve Graham auction from 10am Sunday August 23 at 64 Urquhart Street, Woodend.
The stove, which may well be unique, was modified for use in high altitudes by Scottish climber Percy Unna.
Mallory and Irvine were part of an ill-fated 1924 British expedition to conquer the world’s tallest mountain.

Christian McCann’s on site sale last month of the contents of the nearby property “Moonya” so impressed the owner of 15 Linlithgow Street, Toorak she was prompted to contact him to perform a similar auction at her house.
“It was only a quick settlement of the sale of the house that prevented the auction going ahead in her home,” he said.
So now the sale is being held from noon Sunday August 23 in Christian McCann Auctions room at 426 Burnley Street, Richmond.

Collectors are eagerly awaiting the auctioning of the Richard Dawson Collection of vintage toys at noon Wednesday August 12 by Leonard Joel at 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.
Built up over many years, this single owner collection features many highly collectable names including Dinky, Corgi, Hornby Dublo and Wrenn.
Highlights include a Dinky 514 Guy van ‘Weetabix’ in its original box (lot 84) and a Flash Gordon rocket fighter by Louis Marx USA circa 1939 (lot 200).
The fighter is clockwork powered by a rear flint wheel and is red and yellow in colour.
