The woodworking machinery features a Robland single phase combination table saw, while there also is a Morticer jig, wood lathe, scroll and band saws and a Pedestal angle cutter on offer.

A giant thermometer advertising Stephens Inks is one of the more unusual items in a quality special sale this week at Young’s Auctions from 9.30am Friday November 20 at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.

The Sadri family purchased the diamond in 1939 from Emir’s son Pulat Alimi who had fled from the Soviet Union to East Turkestan after the Bolshevics ousted his father in 1923.

A George III sterling silver tea urn bearing the Rt Hon Alexander Baring arms (1774-1864) – first Baron Ashburton – is another important auction piece.

A superb George III silver epergne, made in 1762 by London silversmiths Lewis Herne & Francis Butty, will undoubtedly bring silver collectors out of the woodwork when Kim’s Auctions offers its first item for sale from 11am Sunday November 15 at 329 Warrigal Road, Burwood.

The epergne has been engraved with the Durrant arms for Sir Thomas Durrant of Scottow – who in 1784 was created a baronet, the year he served as High Sheriff of Norfolk.

A 1962 London Beardmore taxi – driven to the auction rooms by its 85-year-old owner who bought it in England 42 years ago – will be an interesting drawcard for Ballarat Woolshed Auctions (a subsidiary of Glenelg Auctions) from 11am Sunday November 15 at Ballarat Mill Markets 9367 Western Highway Warrenheip, Ballarat.

The auction contains an extraordinary range of items including a fine Judy Cassab self-portrait – the first to be offered since her death last week at age 95.

The collection features a 1.5-carat diamond ring, diamond necklace and diamond line bracelet.

Two baby grand pianos will be the highlight of E.J. Ainger’s forthcoming Melbourne auction from 9.30am Tuesday November 10 at 433 Bridge Road, Richmond.

The auction features the residual contents of several estates including a Harcourt Street, Hawthorn mansion.

The baby grand pianos are an ebonised Yamaha and a John Broadway.

Other items include a leather lounge and contemporary Italian chrome and leather furniture from a Southbank apartment.
