Affordable paintings by many of Australia’s leading artists are the highlights of Leonard Joel’s forthcoming fine art auction from 6.30pm Tuesday March 21 at 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.

Included among the well-known names are Robert Dickerson, David Boyd, James Gleeson, Peter Booth, Charles Blackman, John Coburn, Hugh Sawrey, Pro Hart, D’Arcy Doyle and Clarice Beckett.

Works include Beckett’s Yacht at Sunset and Sherbrook, Doyle’s A Drive in the Countryside, Hart’s River Estuary and Sawrey’s The Blue at Criterion.

Muhammad Ali boxing gloves among auction collectables

A pair of boxing gloves and photograph, both signed by Muhammad Ali and complete with signed authenticity certificates, are major attractions at Leonard Joel’s forthcoming collectables auction from 2pm Thursday March 9 at 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.

The auction contains a range of interesting and collectable items including model cars and aeroplanes, cameras, sporting goods and bronze figures.

Of particular note is the Odin 29-note street organ in working order and a Rolling Stones display including a guitar signed by the band members.

Auction end for historic jewellery collection

After 165 years, Australia’s oldest jeweller Kozminsky has closed while owner Kirsten Albrecht considers the next chapter in the company’s business development.

The forthcoming on site auction – from 11am Saturday March 4 at 421 Bourke Street, Melbourne – will be the largest single owner jewellery sale in Australia since the 1981 auction of the Claire McKinnon collection, with a conservative auction estimate of $1 million.

British artist David Hockney’s major solo exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria until March 13 is expected to generate plenty of interest in Leonard Joel’s first specialist print and photography auction for 2017 because two of his works will feature in the sale.

Now 79, Hockney is regarded as one of the most influential living artists and the exhibition features more than 1200 works from the past decade of his career including paintings, digital drawings, photography and video works.

Leonard Joel is holding its final Interiors and Jewellery auction for 2016 on Thursday December 15 at 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.

Olympic torches light up a memorabilia auction

Torches that carried the Olympic flame for every Olympic Games from 1936 to 2012 are part of the extensive Martin Sheppard collection of Olympic and other sporting memorabilia to be auctioned by Leonard Joel from 2pm Thursday December 8 at 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.

Catalogue estimates for the torches vary from $5000-$7000 for the 1980 Moscow Games torch to $20,000-$25,000 for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics beacon.

Melbourne’s 1956 Olympic Games torch carries a $15,000-$20,000 estimate while the 2000 Sydney Olympics flame is a comparatively modest $6000-$8000.
