A painting by Australian artist the late Robert Jacks obtained directly from his estate and featured on the catalogue cover is one of the highlights of Leonard Joel’s first fine art auction for 2018 – from 6.30pm Tuesday March 20 at 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.

Entitled Aztec Logo 1987, the oil on linen painting is signed by the artist and is a great example of his work.

Jewellery auction to appeal to jewellery lovers

While there are many appealing pieces in Leonard Joel’s first jewellery auction for the year, the auction house has chosen an elegant Boucheron diamond tassel necklace for its catalogue cover.

According to Leonard Joel’s national jewellery head John D’Agata, the necklace was much loved and carefully worn.

The auction, from 6.30pm on Monday March 19 at 333 Malvern Road South Yarra, features several Cartier pieces including a vintage floral spray brooch – also well cared for – and an emerald and diamond bracelet.

Ashes urn a cricketing auction marvel

Two historic pieces of Ashes memorabilia will head Leonard Joel’s inaugural sporting memorabilia auction from 10am Thursday December 7 at 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.

One is an engraved silver tray, presented to the Melbourne Cricket Club president Sir William Clarke and Lady Clarke following England’s defeat of Australia in the first Ashes Test series in 1882-83, and has a catalogue estimate of $80,000-$100,000.

The other is the Ashes urn presented in 1909 to Australian Test captain Monty Noble by Lady Darnley following Australia’s victory over England.
