Three hundred and sixty images and albums by many of the world’s best-known photographers from the 19^th century and 20^th century will be auctioned from 2pm Thursday November 10 at Leonard Joel 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.

The images belong to Dr Dinesh Parekh who has been collecting photographs for most of his adult life.

His interest in photography developed as a teenager growing up in Rajhisthan, India and he began collecting in earnest after qualifying in 1962 as a doctor.

A rare Australian cedar plantation chair purchased from the Chirnside family’s Mount Rothwell homestead and a rare Australian cedar sideboard are major highlights of E.J. Ainger’s forthcoming weekly auction from 9.30am Tuesday November 8 at 433 Bridge Road, Richmond.

In addition to owning the Mount Rothwell homestead, between 1874 and 1877 pastoralist brothers Thomas and Andrew Chirnside built the Italianate-style Werribee Park Mansion west of Melbourne and it became one of Victoria’s most famous landmarks.

One of Hawthorn’s original grand Victorian mansions “Crossakiel” is the setting for Christian McCann Auctions forthcoming sale from noon Sunday November 6 when the entire contents of the property will go under the hammer.

Built in 1886 by Richard Gutheridge, the mansion at 26 Kooyongkoot Road was bought two years later by merchant Randal James Alcock – believed to be a son of Henry Alcock who in 1853 migrated to Australia with his family and established the highly successful and internationally famous billiard manufacturing company Alcock’s in Melbourne.

An international decorative arts auction containing items from three private collections – including those of controversial Australian restaurant critic Leo Schofield – will go under the hammer from noon Sunday October 30 at Mossgreen’s Sydney office 36-40 Queen Street, Woollahra.
