Items from homes throughout Melbourne and Mornington Peninsula including retro, antique Australian primitive, French and English furniture will feature at E.J. Ainger’s latest weekly sale from 9.30am on Tuesday July 1 at 433 Bridge Road, Richmond.

The auction also contains an excellent collection of ceramics, jewellery, silver and kerosene table lamps.

A Waterford crystal vase that has never been taken out of the box are among the more interesting items to feature in Young’s Auctions weekly sale from 9.30am Friday June 27 at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.

The crystal includes a vase (complete with its retail price o f$1195 still attached) and pairs of toasting flutes.

Most unusual is a moose antler in which a Canadian artist has carved grizzly bears and a whale vertebra carved to look like an Eskimo beating a drum.

A postcard depicting the Sydney Harbour Bridge under construction will be a major highlight of Mossgreen’s stamps, coins and postal history auction from 2.30pm Wednesday June 25 at 926-930 High Street, Armadale.

To commemorate the opening of the bridge on March 19, 1932, Australian pioneer aviator Sir Charles Kingsford Smith flew a party of senior engineers responsible for its construction over the bridge on the day.

Signed by the pilot and his 14 passengers, the card was carried in the “Southern Cross” plane and cancelled at the special Bridge Post Office.

Egyptian iron furniture and quality collectables will be the highlight of E.J. Ainger’s latest weekly auction from 9.30am Tuesday at 433 Bridge Road, Richmond.

The Hoong Loh collection will be part of Lawson Menzies Sydney quarterly fine art auction from 6.30pm Thursday June 19 at Menzies Gallery, 12 Todman Avenue, Kensington.

Migrating from Malaysia in 1982 to study at Monash University, Hoong was initially drawn to paintings of the Max Meldrum and George Bell schools.  

Hoong secured employment in the public service and by the late 1980s set about acquiring abstract expressionist works by Judy Cassab and John Coburn.

A late 1800s Continental silver candelabra estimated to be worth between $4000 and $6000 is a major highlight of Young’s Auctions latest sale from 9.30am Friday June 13 at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.
