Mother's Day gifts auctions include Australian celebrity items
Items belonging to two well-known Australian celebrities are part of Philips Auctions timed online Fine & Decorative Arts and Modern & Antique Jewellery auctions finishing from 12pm Monday April 19 at 47 Glenferrie Road, Malvern.
Although neither celebrity wishes to be named, the items themselves are an impressive part of both sales.
One, lot 364 in decorative arts, is a mahogany Bechstein grand piano with a $5000-$10,000 catalogue estimate and a current bid of $5300 and would be perfect for any aspiring concert pianist.

Large buyer choice in Australian art auction
Australian artist Fred Williams (1927-1982) is one of the highlights at Melbourne-based Gibson’s Auctions forthcoming Australian & International Art auction from 2pm Sunday April 18 at 885-889 High Street, Armadale.
The work on offer, a 1968 gouache on paper entitled Desert Landscape (lot 14) with a solid provenance and part of his 2011 National Gallery of Australia exhibition called Infinite Horizons, while nowhere near the money paid for one of his major paintings still has a healthy $30,000-$50,000 catalogue estimate.

A timed online auction ending from 7pm on Tuesday April 6 by Melbourne-based auction house Christian McCann Auctions and featuring antiques, art and decorative arts from Australia and overseas will keep collectors and first time auction goers busy over Easter.
Some of the more interesting items include a 19th century French ormolu salon clock signed by Berthoud of Paris (lot 1) and a fine pair of 19th century Chinese porcelain vases (lot 24), each with a $3000-$4500 catalogue estimate.

Melbourne’s inclement weather did not keep enthusiastic potential buyers from a Sunday March 21 viewing of paintings at Menzies forthcoming art auction – to begin at 6.30pm Wednesday March 31 at the company’s Sydney-based Menzies Gallery at 12 Todman Avenue, Kensington.
Given the 12-month tussle Australia, like all other countries, has had with COVID-19, there was a sense of optimism that perhaps the worst of the pandemic was behind the industry – and that regular viewings and live auctions could once more become the norm.

Camberwell Antique Fair meeting leads to Melbourne auction
Like many of his regular clients with whom he has had a long association, Melbourne auctioneer Christian McCann first met the late Brian Jasper more than 20 years ago at the Camberwell Antique Fair where he sold him a 19th century walnut credenza.
Over the ensuing years, Mr McCann said he derived great pleasure from helping Mr Jasper source much of his collection.
