Art lovers who visit Stonington mansion in Malvern over the next few days to view paintings earmarked for Menzies forthcoming February auction will be struck on entry by the strong colour and highly stylised rendering of modern urban life in French 20th century master Fernand Léger’s 1943 work China Town, which takes pride of place in the foyer.

Comprehensive furniture range at Ainger's first 2017 auction
E.J Ainger’s first auction for the year is notable for its comprehensive range of Victorian, Edwardian and 1920s furniture from estate and private consignments throughout Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.
Consignments include homes in Toorak, Camberwell, Hawthorn, South Yarra and East Melbourne, as well as Dromana on the Mornington Peninsula.
The auction, from 9.30am Tuesday February 7 at 433 Bridge Road Richmond, contains a large selection of collectables including carnival glass, Goebel, crystal, sterling silver, jewellery, ivory and walking sticks.

Leonard Joel has used the second of its Interiors & Jewellery weekly auctions for 2017 to present a comprehensive range of affordable items to auction goers.
The sale – covering furniture, jewellery, art salon and objects and collectables – begins at 10am Thursday February 2 at 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.
The auction features an eclectic mix of furniture, sculptures, Persian rugs, porcelain and jewellery.
Of particular note is a rare Tabriz superfine rug from Iran and a pair of Chesterfield Gascoigne leather wingback armchairs.
