Magnificent French furniture collection on auction market

Sydney-based Peter Orlando’s collection is the highlight of Christian McCann Auctions first sale for the year.

According to auctioneer Christian McCann, this is the finest collection of French antique furniture, mirrors, chandeliers, clocks, sculpture and objets d’art to be offered in Melbourne for many years.

“I first met Peter many years ago while exhibiting at the James Johnson great Sydney antique fairs,” he said.

During her tenure as secretary of the Australian Society, membership almost doubled.

Kitchenalia, coins, banknotes and stamps an auction treasure

Coins, banknotes and stamps will be a major feature of Young’s Auctions weekly sale from 9.30am Friday February 20 at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.

The coins include a centenary florin and banknotes sequential $5 and $2 notes.

The auction contains a large collection of kitchenalia including antique eggbeaters, brass scales, meat covers, rolling pins, scoops and measures and wood saltcellars.

There are sterling silver and jewellery items a “treen” or wooden mosaic box and Moran leather couches and recliners.

Collections of oriental teapots, sterling silver, jewellery and antique clocks will greet auction goers as they file through the doors of Young’s Auctions from 9.30am Friday February 13 at 229 Camberwell road, East Hawthorn.

The silver includes a sterling silver salver and a crystal inkwell with a sterling silver top.

Among the jewellery is an opal and diamond ring and an amethyst set in 14-carat gold.

The auction contains quality English dinner sets, crystal and oil lamps and a range of paintings including Huon pine framed prints of early Hobart.

Collectors should find the Dinky 36C Humber Vogue saloon complete with driver and footman particularly appealing, along with two Dinky 36E British Salmson two-seater sports cars and a 36F four-seater sports.

Other popular collectible models to feature are two Dinky 36G black roof taxis with drivers. One model is maroon, the other green and both have smooth tyres and open rear windows.
