Walter Burley Grifffin designed lounge suite for auction

A three-piece lounge suite designed by Walter Burley Griffin – the man responsible for designing the national capital, Canberra – will be a major highlight of Young’s Auctions next sale from 9.30am Friday at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.

The lounge suite joins a monogrammed chair made for Queen Elizabeth II’s first visit to Australia in 1954 as items bound to whet the appetite of auction goers this week.

Shop floor accident leads to sterling silver decanter prize

There is nothing like an interesting historical tale to spark auction goers’ interest in a particular item and the forthcoming Young’s Auctions sale from 9.30am Friday December 12 at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn is no exception.

One of the items is an 1806 engraved sterling silver decanter holder that was presented in 1816 to a Dr Hallion – the ship’s doctor on one of the ships transporting convicts to the Australian penal colonies.

Long time client leaves his auction legacy

Artwork belonging to a long-time Young’s Auctions client, who died recently, is a major highlight of the auction house’s forthcoming sale from 9.30am Friday December 5 at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.

“The man was a client for more than 40 years and knew both my father Bill and grandfather Ernie,” explained director Ian Young.

Many of the oil paintings have gilt frames and feature ships and horses among the subject matter.

The auction contains model cars, trains and robots and an extensive range of English porcelain and crystal.

A single owner watch collection from a deceased estate should delight jewellery buffs when Young’s Auctions brings down the hammer for its November special sale from 9.30am Friday November 28 at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.

The watch collection includes such iconic brands as IWC, Longines, Rolex and Omega.

The auction contains a range of quality jewellery from several vendors including rather ornate diamond and silver earrings and a large diamond and silver ring.

An interesting feature is two apprentice pieces – one a chest of drawers and the other a cabinet.

The continued disposal of collectables from two estates is another major highlight of Young’s Auctions weekly sale from 9.30am on Friday November 14 at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.

The collectables include an antique counter showcase and several oil lamps, along with a silver cigarette box presented in 1950 to board member Mr Thompson at the New Argus newspaper.

The auction contains several items from a company that has been liquidated including an 18-carat gold ring containing a solitaire diamond and two nine-carat gold rings set with sapphires and rubies.

Auction goers looking to stock up on fine china dinner sets will find it difficult to go past the Wedgwood and Royal Doulton on offer at Young’s Auctions latest sale from 9.30am Friday October 31 at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.

There are several dinner sets to be auctioned along with other Wedgwood and Royal Albert tea set items.

One of the more unusual exhibits is a pair of stuffed cobras fighting a mongoose, while the collection of wines and ports should appeal to wine collectors.

Auction goers will be impressed with the huge assortment of smalls including china, sterling and continental silver on offer at Young’s Auctions latest sale from 9.30am Friday October 24 at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn. 

The European porcelain features wall plates and figurines, while there also is a good range of jewellery and art for sale.

One of the paintings is a Wickham Perry landscape and buyers should be impressed with a Ralph Lauren dining setting and two fine looking table lamps.
