Eclectic mix in Mossgreen quarterly collectors auction

Mossgreen’s Quarterly Collectors Auction Series over two days from 10am Monday June 29 and 10am Tuesday June 30 is a an eclectic mix of general collectables, Chinese and Asian art, silver, Aboriginal tribal artefacts and artworks, military and maritime memorabilia, autographs, books, posters, musical recordings, furniture, cameras and photographic equipment, models and toy trains, paintings and jewellery.

The auction will be held at 926-930 High Street, Armadale and one of its main attractions is a Royal Doulton figurine entitled Princess Badoura.

Martin Brothers pottery an auction steal

A collection of Martin Brothers pottery should bring collectors running to Mossgreen’s ceramics section of its Autumn Auction Series from 10.30am Wednesday June 17 at 926-930 High Street, Armadale.

Located in Middlesex, England, Martin Brothers was famous for making Martinware – a salt-glazed stoneware – between 1873 and 1915.

Many figural jugs and vases were created by the three brothers and of special interest were the fanciful birds, usually made with removable heads and called “Wally Birds”.

 A rare and exceptional Argyle pink diamond, estimated at $1.1 million to $1.4 million, is a major drawcard at Mossgreen’s Fine Jewels & Watches auction from 6.30pm Tuesday June 16 at 926-930 High Street, Armadale.

Lot 51 of an Argyle Pink Diamond Tender in 2010, the diamond is accompanied by an Argyle certificate and a Gemological Institute of America diamond grading report from that same year, stating the colour is a fancy deep purplish pink and of clarity l1.

Prime Ministers autographs and giant gold nugget share auction billing

Autograph signatures of every Australian Prime Minister since Sir Edmund Barton will be auctioned from 2pm Tuesday May 19 by Mossgreen at 926-930 High Street, Armadale as part of its Australian & Colonial Antique & Historical sale.

While most of the signatures carry catalogue estimates of several hundreds of dollars, that of the third Prime Minister Chris Watson (1867-1941) is estimated at $10,000-$12,000.

This is because he was the first prime minister from the Australian Labour Party and the first in the world from the labour movement.

World boxing trophy a sporting collector's auction dream

The 1888 Coloured Champion of the World Boxing trophy – a Victorian sterling silver two-handled embossed trophy cup – will be auctioned from 10am Thursday April 23 by Mossgreen as part of its sporting memorabilia sale at 926-930 High Street, Armadale.

The cup is engraved with the words “Presented to Peter Jackson, Coloured, Champion Boxer of the World, at the Alhambra, Brighton, Eng, Monday Decr 2nd 1889, By a Few Admirers of His Sterling Qualities”.

Peter “Black Prince” Jackson was an Australian heavyweight boxer with a significant international career.
