An early art deco German WMF inkwell with a silver-plated pewter racing car as its centrepiece almost tripled its auction estimate at Amanda Addams Auctions September sale when it sold for $3400.
Other good auction results included a pair of antique Cantonese figural and cameo decorated Famille rose ceramic vases that brought $1300 on a $900-$1200 estimate.
Various items fared well including a rare late 18th century Tibetan bronze Lama Buddha, which sold for $1600, and a signed Japanese Meiji period Okimono depicting an elder peeling an apple while child waits ($1200).
An 18-carat pair of gold and diamond earrings changed hands for $1850, while a handmade 18-carat white gold diamond and sapphire ring brought $1650.
Two art deco Hagenauer pieces – one a seated African male Nubian with brass spear and the other a brass African Nubian bust – each sold for $1000 – while a pair of antique rosewood Cantonese emperor chairs went for $1700 and a Norwegian Dakka Mobler red chrome and timber set of two armchairs and sofa for a similar price.
