Paintings from the deceased estate of former Melbourne identity Peter Davis are among popular highlights of Philips Auctions forthcoming decorative and fine arts auction from noon Sunday July 28 at 47 Glenferrie Road, Malvern.

Several of the paintings feature past Melbourne and Victorian scenes by artists such as Dora Lynell Wilson (1883-1946) Top End of Collins Street, Melbourne (lot 395) and Fabian Swire’s 1934 etching Collins Street Old & New (lot 394) showing views of the then recently completed Manchester Unity Building.

A rare Singer pedal sewing machine complete with motifs on the side panels is among E.J. Ainger’s auction treasures at its forthcoming sale from 9.30am Tuesday July 16 at 433 Bridge Road, Richmond.

Other quality furniture items bound to attract auction goers include the residual contents of a Yarra Glen home such as a Victorian mahogany desk, walnut dressing table, tallboy chest and dining table.

Sterling silver and mid-20^th century retro teak and oak furniture are bound to drag in buyers to E.J. Ainger’s auction from 9.30am Tuesday July 2 at 433 Bridge Road, Richmond.

Included is a designer retro chair, stylish cocktail cabinet, retro sideboards, chests and occasional tables.

Among the silver is a 19^th century coffee pot, milk jug, dishes, candlestick holders, cigarette boxes and flasks.

Other items include Chesterfield armchairs and glass coffee tables.

The 40-strong collection features several fascinating examples including lot 65 – Austrian Franz Bergman’s (1861-1936) bronze rendition showing the elephant with game hunters and a slain tiger.
