Massive diamond sells for healthy hammer price at auction

A massive diamond weighing 4.32 carats and handset in an 18-carat yellow and white gold ring sold for a healthy hammer price of $28,000 at Amanda Addams Auctions February 3 sale.

Similarly, a handmade 18-carat white gold tanzanite and diamond pendant weighing 49.30 carats was knocked down for $24,000.

Both carried respective insurance valuations of $115,700 and $119,500.

Art fared reasonably well with Sir Sidney Nolan’s Shakespeare Sonnet oil on paper, originally from Andrew Invanyi Galleries in South Yarra and now in a private collection sold for $5000, while Robert Dickerson’s The Journey (from the same gallery) changed hands for $4000.

Another of Robert Dickerson’s works Mother and Child sold for $3500, while Jasper Knight’s Paul, a mixed media on card and dated 2012 changed hands for $2000.

Bruce Earles’ Trackside dated 2003 went for a hammer price of $1500 and Pro Hart’s Dragonfly and Ants $1400.

An unusual dragon decorated etched and carved sperm whale tooth on a timber stand signed by Peter Brown sold for $1100.
