Chinese vessel and jewellery bring satisfying auction results

With more than a dozen new registered bidders and 600 regulars attending Amanda Addams Auctions August sale, many items on offer sold well above estimate.

After auction sales also were solid particularly for Hagenauer items (all of which sold) and jewellery pieces, with the auction house finishing with an overall 82 per cent clearance rate.

The greatest prices (all minus the buyers’ premium of 18.7 per cent) were achieved by a rare Chinese Ching dynasty carved ivory vessel selling for $4000 and a Georgian oak four-drawer dresser, which changed hands for $3000.

Jewellery was a big seller with an 18-carat white gold, diamond and sapphire pair of earrings selling for $3000, while an 18-carat gold and diamond tennis bracelet fetched $2000 and a black Akoya pearl necklace $1650.

A rare Lalique “Druide” blue and white vase from 1923-28 and engraved R. Lalique on the base sold for $2800, while a clear and opalescent orchid decorated vase from the same maker fetched $1200.

Paintings were another feature with Charles Blackman’s Nude Blond ink on paper selling for $1400 and Leonard Long’s Strath Creek Victoria Landscape for $1300.

A late Georgian walnut corner display cabinet was another good selling item bringing $1200.
