Templestowe mansion contents up for grabs

The entire contents of a magnificent Templestowe mansion will be auctioned on site at 11a Read Street from noon Sunday June 1 by Christian McCann Auctions because the family is moving back to China.

The auction comprises the finest French, English and Chinese antiques, art and decorative arts and, according to Christian McCann, is a sale any serious collector or enthusiast must not miss.

Included in the auction is superb antique French furniture featuring ormolu mounted Boulle pieces, commodes, display cabinets, armchairs, gilt mirrors and library items.

The auction contains French and English porcelain, ormolu mounted Sevres vases, and English Royal Worcester and Meissen.

There also is quality Chinese furniture, carved cherry wood chairs and mother of pearl inlaid pieces.

A feature is the important pair of Chinese vases, along with quality antique jade and porcelain, scholar stones and carved ivory.

Among the art on offer are works by Hugh Sawrey, David Boyd, Pro Hart, Charles Blackman, John Perceval and Darcy Doyle.

Auction goers also will be interested in the French and English antique long case clocks and clock sets, and signed 19th century French bronze figures and figure groups.
