The forthcoming auction of paintings from the late Joy Warren’s estate in Canberra’s Albert Hall should engender plenty of interest among art lovers Australia wide.

A larger than life figure who dedicated her life to the arts as a performer, fundraiser, publicist and patron, she and her husband Bob established the Solander Gallery in the national capital to provide a venue for the promotion and exhibition of artists works she admired.

As a gallerist, Joy Warren became one of Canberra’s most prominent women and the comprehensive stable of artists she represented a testimony to the trust they placed in her.

Coinciding with Mossgreen’s establishment of a permanent presence in Canberra, the auction house has been asked to auction 300 works from Warren’s personal collection from 2pm Sunday April 10.

The collection reflects her diverse interest in art and this auction features modern Australian art representing a range of styles.

Of interest to auction goers should be Garry Shead’s The Awakening, a limited edition (number 49 of 80) collograph, and Robin Wallace-Crabbe’s charcoal on canvas triptych Nudes 1969.

Other paintings bound to attract plenty of attention include two works by Robert Dickerson – Woman in Escarpment and Woman with Clouds – and Alun Leach-Jones Jacobs Ladder.

Andrew Sibley's Joy Wqrren - The Gallery Director is an interesting study while Margaret Olley's Ned Kelly Framed 2003 is an intriguing work.

Viewing is at Ainslie Arts Centre, Eloura Street, Braddon ACT.
