Appealing weekly sales open 2018 auction season

Leonard Joel opens its 2018 auction season on Thursday January 18 with four weekly sales covering furniture, jewellery, art salon and collectables.

The first of these – furniture – begins at 10.00am with the remainder starting respectively at 10.30am, 11.30am and noon.

Among the furniture are several appealing items for buyers including a Christopher Guy Proust writing desk, a rare handcrafted double barrel bar counter, a French Empire style walnut inlaid hall table, an impressive late Victorian inlaid jewellery box on a stand, a cowhide butterfly style chair, a French carved bureau, a French Henry II walnut and marble top sideboard and a superfine Persian Kashan carpet.

The jewellery auction offers a range of ideal birthday, anniversary or post-Christmas gifts including a diamond cluster ring, a diamond and pearl set bow brooch, gents coin ring, pear cut tanzanite pendant, an 18-carat gold plated pocket watch by the Philadelphia Watch Case Company and Tahitian pearl and diamond drop earrings.

Art salon features unusual items like the vintage Yves St Laurent belt, untitled blue and yellow Perspex creations by Simeon Nelson, Gippsland Lakes I and II oil paintings by Kevin Connor and Fishing Boat and Figure watercolour by R.W. Sturgess.

A French directoire ormolu mounted marble portico clock, boxed limited edition Wedgwood lustre fairyland bowl and Beleek black mark honeypot are among items to feature in the collectables auction.
