Antique rifles and pistols auction a collector's dream

A collection of antique rifles, pistols and flare guns are among the highlights of Young’s Auctions weekly sale from 9.30am Friday September 26 at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.

The collection includes an 18th century flintlock shotgun and 19th century percussion shotguns and rifles.

One of the rifles, an over/under percussion cap example is by well-known maker of the time Josh Golcher. Another is an antique Kentucky rifle with an octagonal barrel.

The collection also contains an antique flintlock pistol in its original case complete with shot, powder flask, bullet mould and giant pocketknife.

Another is an antique flintlock pistol with over/under barrels and a third an antique French military pistol from the 1850s.

Of great interest to collectors will be the 18th century Turkish flintlock pistol complete with case, gold inlaid powder flask, flask brushes and a miniature dagger.

Another item bound to whet appetites is an American World War II flare gun.

The auction features 35 paintings and Asian statues from a deceased estate including Indian and Asian deities.

The paintings include works by Dellafield Cook, Wykeham Perry, Harold Herbert, Robert Young and Evan Mackley

The auction also features a strong selection of jewellery and sterling silver and garden ornaments and furniture including 1950s garden gnomes and antique metal pots.
