Leonard Joel’s Fine Art auction from 6.30pm Tuesday September 4 at 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra offer auction goers many affordable paintings from different periods of Australian art.
A scroll through the catalogue reveals many familiar names – Charles Blackman, John Brack, Hugh Sawrey, Penleigh and David Boyd, Robert Dickerson, Tim Storrier, Pro Hart, Walter Withers and James R Jackson to name but a few.

An eclectic range of fine jewels – a strong feature of the John Swanton collection – with a focus on enamels is a major highlight of Leonard Joel’s forthcoming jewellery auction from 6.30pm Monday September 3 at 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.
Lot 105, an extremely rare Georgian hand painted miniature eye locket with a provenance that can be traced back to the Earl of Warwick, is typical of the fine quality of the collection.
The locket belonged to Sydney’s Anne Schofield Antiques and was purchased about 1970 from Christie’s of London.

Kim's Auctions
Three rare and unusual American guitars should bring collectors running to Kim’s Auctions forthcoming sale from 11am Sunday September 2 at 327-329 Warrigal Road, Burwood.
All are owned by the one vendor. One of the guitars is a rare 1978 limited edition specimen by Adamas Ovation, while the other two are a Jazz Bass (Bass Fender) and 1988 Rickenbacker.
The auction contains several other strong attractions including an 1860s council hall table mirror and a single owner collection of more than 100 Sevres and Mason porcelain vases, dishes and other items.

A plethora of sporting memorabilia items that have never before been auctioned will be up for grabs when Leski Auctions holds its Celebration of Cricket! Sale from 3pm Sunday September 2 at 727-729 High Street, Armadale.
The auction follows the recent closure of New South Wales’ Central Coast Cricket Museum involving items on display for many years.
Other highlights include the collections of both a Melbourne and Sydney gentleman, along with various vendor items – again some of which have never before been auctioned.

An 1888 New South Wales centennial stamp issue featured on the catalogue front cover is the highlight of Abacus Auctions forthcoming Stamp, Postal History & Picture Postcards auction from noon Saturday September 1 at 19A Hampshire Road, Glen Waverley.
The issue is part of the Nova Castrian (the nom-de-plume for a low-profile collector collecting for almost 60 years who has now decided to sell) stamp collection – covering New South Wales, Tasmania, South Australia and Queensland examples – that comprises about half the auction items.

J.H. Scheltema’s Herding Cattle and David Boyd’s Children in Orchard are strong Australian paintings bound to interest art lovers.
The banquet dining table leads a comprehensive range of furniture including 20 sets of dining chairs – each set ranging from six to 10 in number – made from cedar, mahogany or rosewood.

Signed and framed Australian Rules football jumpers by Essendon champions Matthew Lloyd and James Hird are among a comprehensive range of sporting memorabilia being offered at a Leonard Joel online auction which finishes at 10am on Thursday August 16.
Other football items include framed photographs of Collingwood’s 1990 premiership team and Carlton’s ‘The Silvagni Dynasty’ featuring the number 1 guernsey worn by 20th century father and son champions Serge and Stephen.

Philips Auctions
A Melbourne surgeon, who died several years ago from asbestosis contracted when he worked as a student on a building site, has left a lasting legacy in the form of antique English pocket watches collected for relaxation while he was alive.
His wife, who wishes to remain anonymous, has given the collection – comprising 170 pocket watches – to Philips Auctions to be sold at a special auction from 6.00pm Tuesday August 14 at 47 Glenferrie Road, Malvern.

Gibsons Auctions
New Melbourne auction house Gibson’s Auctioneers & Valuers has picked up the collection of the late Dr Robert Wilson for its inaugural auction from 11am Sunday August 12 at Level 1, 885-889 High Street, Armadale.
Born in 1945 in Camberwell, Wilson (who died last year) studied science at the University of Melbourne before completing a doctorate in theoretical physics at Monash University in 1972.
After a stint as 3MBSFM’s general manager and time spent with then Victorian Minster for the Arts Race Mathews, he joined the National Gallery of Victoria’s staff.
