Stamps, coins and postal history are the subject of Melbourne-based Leski Auctions last sale for 2021.

To be held from 10am Thursday December 9 at 727-729 High Street, Armadale, the auction has a larger than usual range of coins, banknotes and medals including an interesting collection of Australian half sovereigns (lots 26-51), featuring Queen Victoria young heads from 1871, and sovereigns (lots 52-89).

Given their rich Australian heritage and enthusiasm for collecting Australiana, it is not surprising that the East Melbourne home of husband and wife team Gary and Genevieve Morgan - of Morgan Gallup Poll fame - is a living museum to Australian artworks, sculptures, pottery, wood carvings and furnishings.

Now, collectors worldwide will have the opportunity to obtain one or more items in this collection when Leski Auctions offers Part One for sale from 6.30pm Tuesday December 7 at The Gallery, Tonic House, 386 Flinders Lane, Melbourne.

A four-day auction covering stamps, postal history and notes, and sporting memorabilia by Melbourne-based Abacus Auctions will begin at 11am on December 1 and end on December 4 at 29 Hardner Road, Mount Waverley.

Australian stamps, of which the ‘Artemis’ Kangaroo and Map Rarities contained in a special deluxe hard bound catalogue is the highlight, leads auction items that number almost 2470 lots.

This catalogue contains an impressive array of spectacular Kangaroo stamps ever offered at one auction – many never before available for purchase in Australia.

Being the doctor for one of Australia’s better known artists – in this case John Perceval (1923-2000), the last surviving member of a group known as the Angry Penguins who redefined Australian art in the 1940s – has its benefits if you happen to be a collector.

For the late Raymond Petersen and his wife Margaret (Peg), it was a bonus having Perceval as one of his patients because he ended up with signed works from the artist.
