Menzies Art Brands
Menzies is excited about the potential for a new artist auction record for Australian artist Del Kathryn Barton’s painting Openly Song 2014 (lot 33) at its first sale for 2020 from 6.30pm Thursday February 27 at 1 Darling Street, South Yarra.
Chief executive officer Justin Turner describes the painting, which has never been auctioned before, as the best of her works to come onto the secondary market.

Christian McCann Auctions
Kilora, the homestead belonging to one of Australia’s best known 19th century newspaper editors and proprietors, George Henry Mott (1831-1906), will be auctioned in Hamilton, Victoria, from 11am Sunday February 23 by Christian McCann Auctions.
The house sale, at 45 Kennedy Street, will be followed at 12pm by its contents. Considered one of the most important houses in Hamilton it was built for Mott – who at that stage was editor of the Hamilton Spectator – in 1871 on the best site in town.

Leski Auctions
A rare Faberge tie clip (lot 17) and a magnificent French Japanese style silver, niello and enamel comport (lot 20) are among major drawcards at Leski Auctions first auction for 2020 from 1pm Saturday February 22 at 727-729 High Street, Armadale.
The two-day sale, which continues at 10am the next day, features a huge selection of international decorative arts including ceramics, paintings, decorator pieces and glassware.

Philips Auctions
Exquisite furniture and paintings from the Victorian branch of the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation is among highlights of Philips Auctions first 2020 sale from noon Sunday February 16 at 47 Glenferrie Road, Malvern.
Among the major features are a 19th century European school portrait of a young lady in a black dress with lace collar (lot 367), a Regency style early to mid-20th century mahogany bureau plat (lot 432) and a late 19th century Louis XVI giltwood canape with musical score motifs imprinted on the aqua silk taffeta (lot 436).

A beautiful heritage home in Essendon is the venue for E.J. Ainger’s forthcoming auction from 11am Sunday February 16 and features a spectacular collection of art among its must see treasures.
The on-site auction, at 1 Riverview Road, offers paintings such as Pro Hart’s Brolgas by Billabong (lot 199), Hugh Sawrey’s Pub Scene (lot 114) and Elioth Gruner’s St Pat’s Cathedral, Melbourne (lot 24).

Hilco APAC Global
Works by some of the best known Australian and international contemporary artists are being auctioned online from 12pm Friday February 14 to 8pm Thursday February 20 through Hilco APAX Global at 4-8 Knighton Avenue, Airport West.
Some 229 paintings are on offer at the Melbourne venue and include such well-known art identities as Hampstead Keith, Derek Gores, Priscilla Nagamarra Escobar and Roman and Anna Kuffner.
New York native Derek Gores was born in 1971 and graduated from the BFA Rhode island School of Design at age 22.
