Consignments from estates and private homes have built up at E.J. Ainger’s storage warehouse because the company has not held its regular weekly auction for four weeks due to the highly successful special sale of April 6.
The next weekly sale will be from 9.30am Tuesday April 15 at 433 Bridge Road, Richmond and will feature 19th century and 20th century English, French, Australian, Egyptian and decorative furnishings.

It is not often auction goers have the opportunity to see the workings of a milliner up close.
However, from 10am Saturday April 13 auctioneer Steve Graham will auction hat blocks and other hat making equipment and supplies belonging to well-known Mornington Peninsula milliner Jackie Newman, who is retiring from business after more than 30 years supplying hats for such major events as Caulfield and Flemington’s Fashions on the Field.

While most people associate miniature cameras with the likes of fictional British spy James Bond or the KGB and CIA, United States-born but Australian-based adventurer Willie Feinberg had just as practical a reason for their use.
They were small, light and sophisticated – ideal for his penchant for travelling the world and recording its many faces.
Born in 1935, Willie grew up in South Bronx – the only white kid in an all-black school in the bleak pre- World War II years of industrial America.

The collection of porcelain, silver and other fine objects belonging to nature lover and antique dealer the late Laszlo Erdos will be auctioned from 4pm Thursday April 10 by Leonard Joel at 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.
Born in Hungary, as a young man Laszlo built a reputation as a man of birds with the Ornithological Institute of Hungary and in 1947 discovered a new species – the first in his country for 60 years.

Ewart A. Wing was a Sydney collector whose passion for collecting was enhanced by the fact he met one of Royal Worcester’s leading artists David Peplow and the Australian artist Robert Dickerson.
A carpenter/builder who was adept at restoring antique furniture to near perfect condition (helped by his son Robert who was a French polisher), Ewart collected until his death 32 years ago, aged 63.

Items belonging to the legendary Collingwood player and coach Jock McHale will be a highlight of E.J. Ainger’s special sale from noon Sunday April 6 at 433 Bridge Road, Richmond.
Born in Sydney, McHale moved to Melbourne as a child where he attended the Christian Brothers College in East Melbourne before leaving school to work at the nearby McCracken Brewery (later bought out by Carlton United Breweries).
At the same time, he joined Australian Rules football club Coburg, where he immediately impressed and was spotted by Collingwood.

Following its recent successful clearing sale for Peter Brummell, Glenelg Auctions is faced with another huge auction of 1600 lots from 10.30am Sunday April 6 at 109 Learmonth Street, Portland.
The auction features a comprehensive range of Australian art including six works by leading artist Hugh Sawrey, Cathleen Edkins’ Still Life – Her Garden, and paintings by Joseph Frost, Ray Crooke, Ernest Buckmaster, Tom Offord, John Eldershaw, Norman Lindsay, Basil Hadley, Follen Bishop and Taylor Ghee.

Military memorabilia and old lamps are among the attractions to Young’s Auctions latest sale from 9.30am Friday April 4 at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.
The lamps include an early 20th century ship’s masthead lantern and old railway workmen’s lights.
Among the military items are German World War I picklehaub helmets and percussion cap rifles.
The auction also contains vintage typewriters from the collection of former champion European speedway motorcyclist Romanian Emeric Somlo who migrated to Australia in 1965.
