Seashells to delight many an auction beachcomber
Seashell collectors will have the chance to choose from a wide range of unusual specimens when Young’s Auctions next sale gets underway from 9.30am Friday May 8 at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.
These rare auction items have been joined by a comprehensive collection of commemorative and other coins and desirable pieces of estate jewellery.
Paintings are another attraction along with a wide selection of antique and modern furniture.
Items include a rolltop desk, grand piano, sideboard, chest, couches and armchairs.

Unique black and white Beatles photos go under the hammer
Unique black and white photos taken in 1964 of the Beatles appearing the Ed Sullivan Show, on their way by train to a Washington performance and arriving in Adelaide are among an unusual collection of entertainment memorabilia auction from noon Thursday May 7.
The auction, by Leonard Joel at 333 Malvern Road South Yarra, feature the Beatles at press conferences, in hotels, in concert and travelling during the start of their phenomenal success as the world’s leading pop band of the 1960s and 1970s.

Bible text a leading auction art piece
Colin McCahon’s work Paul to Hebrews 1980 is one of the more fascinating pieces of art to be auctioned from 7pm Wednesday May 6 by Deutscher and Hackett at 105 Commercial Road, South Yarra.
Comprising written passages from the Bible on three sheets of Steinbach paper using synthetic polymer paint, the painting is one of two biblical texts that dominated the final period of McCahon’s oeuvre (the first being a Letter to the Hebrews in the 1970s).

Two works – one of them a major painting entitled The Garden of the Graces – by famous 19th century water colourist Ebenezer Wake Cook (1843-1926) lead a strong art section at Christian McCann Auctions forthcoming sale from noon Sunday May 3 at 426 Burnley Street, Richmond.
The painting was inspired by Greek mythology The Three Graces (in Roman mythology Gratiae) – goddesses of such virtues as charm, beauty and creativity.

An outstanding single owner collection of Moorcroft art pottery including a rare Jerusalem vase will be part of a two-day auction from 11am Saturday May 2 and Sunday May 3 by E.J. Ainger Pty Ltd at 433 Bridge Road, Richmond.
The Jerusalem vase – number one in a limited edition run of only 50 – is now worth about $25,000. At the time of its manufacture in 2000, each vase retailed in England for £11,500 and numbers sold quickly.

As well as the miniature sewing machines, this interesting collection includes old cameras and oil cans from the 1940s and men’s magazines from the 1950s.
There also is a substantial collection of specially minted commemorative silver coins, along with a fine specimen cabinet, old microscopes and an early anvil.

The 1888 Coloured Champion of the World Boxing trophy – a Victorian sterling silver two-handled embossed trophy cup – will be auctioned from 10am Thursday April 23 by Mossgreen as part of its sporting memorabilia sale at 926-930 High Street, Armadale.
The cup is engraved with the words “Presented to Peter Jackson, Coloured, Champion Boxer of the World, at the Alhambra, Brighton, Eng, Monday Decr 2nd 1889, By a Few Admirers of His Sterling Qualities”.
Peter “Black Prince” Jackson was an Australian heavyweight boxer with a significant international career.
