Connoissuer collection an auctioneer's dream
Leonard Joel will auction the Dr George Wilcox collection from 1pm Sunday March 8 at the Intercontinental Sydney Double Bay 33 Cross Street, Double Bay in Sydney as part of its Jewels and Objets D’Art sale.
The late doctor was a connoisseur of fine clocks, furniture, silver and decorative arts - particularly of English origin.
Dr Wilcox shared the collecting bug with his wife Pam – so much so that George always bought the antiques while his wife exclaimed, “George, you can’t afford that!”.

Swarovski crystal a genuine auction crowd puller
The first pieces of a substantial collection of Austrian Swarovski crystal will be auctioned from 9.30am Friday March 6 at Young’s Auctions 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn – with the remainder being offered in coming weeks.
Headquartered in Wattens Austria, the company was established in 1892 by Czech-born Daniel Swarovski (formerly Swartz) who died in 1956.
His father was a glasscutter who owned a small glass factory where the young Swarovski served an apprenticeship and became skilled in the art.

A strong collection of sterling silver – the highlight of which is a Hester Bateman cruet set – should bring auction goers running for Philips Auctions first decorative arts sale for 2015.
The auction, from noon Sunday February 22 at 47 Glenferrie Road Malvern, will feature several “funky” contemporary art works by artists such as Herman Pekel, Anthony Morrison and Michael Whitehead.
Another strong attraction will be the Chinese export silver by Wing Fat from Hong Kong and Luen Wo from Shanghai – including a spirit kettle on a stand.

During her tenure as secretary of the Australian Society, membership almost doubled.
Meeting as teenagers and together almost 40 years, the two were regulars at antique shops, markets, auctions and fairs for over 30 years.
