For those auction goers into old Biggles books, 1930s and 1940s advertising and other ephemera like a Fletcher Jones coat hangar, a Mummy Puff Pastry calico flour bag and a 1980s Big M jigsaw, then Young’s Auctions 9.30am Friday July 25 auction at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn should be right up their alley.

The auction also has a wealth of other items including an antique French speltre statue and landscape paintings by artists such as Wickham Perry (whose works Young’s Auctions sells on a regular basis) and Fred Klix.

Clowns and figurines to entice auction collectors

An interesting collection of Royal Doulton figurines and another of Armani clown statues (both from the same collector) is a major highlight of Young’s Auctions latest sale from 9.30am Friday July 18 at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.

The auction also features Waterford crystal including 12 champagne flutes each containing different scenes from the iconic 12 days of Christmas song.

Unusual pottery figures to attract collectors

Pottery figures by Prahran artist Jenny Gibney feature in Young’s Auctions latest sale from 9.30am Friday July 11 at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.

The collection of female figures in period dress is bound to interest collectors, according to Young’s Auctions director Ian Young.

“She is a contemporary Australian pottery artist and they are quite unusual,” he said.

The auction contains more examples of Waterford crystal from a collector who has submitted champagne flutes, glasses and various other crystal creations each week for the past three weeks.

African and PNG masks to entice tribal artefact collectors

African and Papua New Guinean masks, bowls and statues join Australian Aboriginal didgeridoos as features for Young’s Auctions latest sale from 9.30am Friday July 4 at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.

The collection, which includes travel books and hats from all parts of the world, belongs to vendors who travelled extensively during their working life. 

The auction contains more Waterford crystal (including toasting flutes, carafes, clock, dolphin and harp) from the same vendor who auctioned several quality pieces last week.

Waterford crystal one out of the box

A Waterford crystal vase that has never been taken out of the box are among the more interesting items to feature in Young’s Auctions weekly sale from 9.30am Friday June 27 at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.

The crystal includes a vase (complete with its retail price o f$1195 still attached) and pairs of toasting flutes.

Most unusual is a moose antler in which a Canadian artist has carved grizzly bears and a whale vertebra carved to look like an Eskimo beating a drum.

Church items a religious auction experience

Items from a local church including pews and chairs will be a highlight of Young’s Auctions latest sale from 9.30am Friday June 20 at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.

The auction contains a range of contemporary dining furniture and modern and ornate imported lounge suites, along with antique Australian and English furniture.

Other items of interest include vintage mantle radios, porcelain, glassware, paintings and jewellery.

A late 1800s Continental silver candelabra estimated to be worth between $4000 and $6000 is a major highlight of Young’s Auctions latest sale from 9.30am Friday June 13 at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.

The auction also contains a strong collection of Lladro porcelain figures and a suite of Waterford crystal and Stuart crystal glasses.

Keen collectors will be interested in the comprehensive collection of model cars from the 1930s to the present day and kitchenalia items such as rolling pins from the Great Depression era.

Auction links to Camberwell's past

A strong link to Camberwell’s historic past will be among items to be auctioned from 9.30am Friday May 30 in Young’s Auctions special sale at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.

The link comprises items from and a painting of a late 19th century mansion on the corner of Riversdale and Trafalgar Roads – knocked down in the 1970s to build a hospital on the site.

The items include a leadlight window from the mansion and cast iron posts and lacework fencing.

Vintage scales, cameras, sewing machines to bring out collectors

Young’s Auctions latest sale on Friday May 23 at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn features a set of 100-year-old vintage scales from Argentina owned by a well-travelled vendor.

There are several vintage cameras including a Roliflex, Zeiss Ikon and a Canon with multiple lenses, still in its original carry case.

There also is a washbowl by stoneware maker Mason’s, particularly popular last century, and the last of the vintage sewing machines and typewriters from the estate of European speedway motorcycle champion Romanian Emeric Somlo who migrated to Australia in 1965.
