Leonard Joel
A comprehensive selection of Australiana items will be up for grabs at Leonard Joel’s latest Australiana auction from 2.30pm Thursday March 22 at 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.
Among the highlights is an 1800s colonial scrimshaw and turtle shell desk set, a 1930s arts and crafts long case clock and a copy of John Gould’s Birds of Australia 1971-75.

Sothebys Australia
Sotheby’s Australia will auction what it claims to be the most important collection of Lalique glass ever offered in Australia from 6pm Wednesday March 21 at the InterContinental Sydney 117 Macquarie Street, Sydney – appealing to national and international collectors alike.
The 134-piece collection belonged to Hans Mueller, late owner of the Lowes retail empire, and his late wife Gertrud who in the 1980s began amassing glass pieces by the famous French maker.

A variety of teak sideboards (lot 747), dining tables and chairs (lot 777), nests of tables (lot 762) and coffee tables (lot 763) are among the highlights for E.J. Ainger’s forthcoming fortnightly auction from 9.30am Tuesday March 20 at 433 Bridge Road, Richmond.
An ornately carved French Henry II walnut court cabinet (lot 802) is another strong attraction, along with an impressive black and gold French style sideboard (lot 742).
Other worthwhile items include a green painted fern back cast iron garden bench (lot 722) and several queen sized beds (lot 684).

A painting by Australian artist the late Robert Jacks obtained directly from his estate and featured on the catalogue cover is one of the highlights of Leonard Joel’s first fine art auction for 2018 – from 6.30pm Tuesday March 20 at 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.
Entitled Aztec Logo 1987, the oil on linen painting is signed by the artist and is a great example of his work.
In Ken McGregor & Robert Jacks: Past Unfolded, during conversation between the artist and author between November 1998 and August 2000, he says:

While there are many appealing pieces in Leonard Joel’s first jewellery auction for the year, the auction house has chosen an elegant Boucheron diamond tassel necklace for its catalogue cover.
According to Leonard Joel’s national jewellery head John D’Agata, the necklace was much loved and carefully worn.
The auction, from 6.30pm on Monday March 19 at 333 Malvern Road South Yarra, features several Cartier pieces including a vintage floral spray brooch – also well cared for – and an emerald and diamond bracelet.

As Phil and Liz Capocchi plan the next chapter in their lives, the items they have amassed as two of Melbourne’s leading antique dealers will be auctioned through Leonard Joel from 11am Sunday March 18 on site at 941-951 High Street, Armadale.
Their careers as antique dealers began in 1973 when they visited their first antique shop in South Australia’s Barossa Valley.

Christian McCann is over the moon about his latest auction of rare cars and antiques – describing it as the most important sale Australia has seen in many years.
It certainly is impressive, featuring a collection of rare vintage cars, motorcycles and automobile memorabilia along with antique furniture, fine art, porcelain, clocks, Georgian glassware and garden statuary – all housed in a picturesque 11.33-hectare property at 525 Mount Pleasant Road, Research.

Kim's Auctions
A stuffed life-size polar bear, which as its head almost touches the ceiling towers over everything else at in Kim’s Auctions rooms at 327-329 Warrigal Road, Burwood, is the dominating feature of his forthcoming auction – and first for 2018 – from 11am Sunday March 11.
Owned by Queensland-based Terry Dalkos, the bear was purchased from a Canadian supplier and legally imported with a Convention of International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) certificate.
A local taxidermist prepared the mount and attached the metal CITES tag underneath the stand.

A large consignment of impressive wrought iron garden furniture and décor is the highlight of E.J. Ainger’s forthcoming fortnightly auction from 9.30am Tuesday March 6 at 433 Bridge Road, Richmond.
The consignment includes a massive iron garden gazebo, iron garden arbors, benches and gates, and wrought iron balustrades and architectural pieces.
Also on offer are wrought iron planters, wrought iron and marble buffets and side tables, large wooden and cast iron courtyard doors, outdoor iron chandeliers and iron and glass lanterns, and wooden plantation shutters.

Fine Arts Auctions
When auctioneer Phil Caldwell opened an old cupboard at his latest auction venue – the heritage listed 1874 mansion “Roseneath” at 31 Nepean Highway, Elsternwick – he could not believe his eyes.
There, stashed at the back, was a rare silver emu egg inkstand by German-born silversmith Joachim Wendt (1830-1917), who migrated to Adelaide in 1854.
