Chinese furniture makers show off auction wares
For more than 250 years, Chang Ming Lei’s family made furniture and designed buildings for the Chinese emperors of their day.
Located in Beijing, they were even lucky enough to make modifications to the magnificent Tiananmen Tower (initially built in 1417 during the Ming Dynasty) that takes pride of place in Tiananmen Square.
For the past 20 years, Chang Ming and his wife Mary have lived at 18 Stanhope Grove, Camberwell and are now moving back to China.

Leonard Joel will celebrate one of Australia’s greatest innovative art periods – that of the 19450s and 1950s – when it auctions the collections of benefactors Wivine and Roger De Stoop and Georges and Mirka Mora from 6.30pm Tuesday June 5 at 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.
These collections represent a reunion of works by notable Australian artists of that era including Charles Blackman, Arthur Boyd, Joy Hester, Sidney Nolan, Albert Tucker, John Perceval, Josl Bergner and Danila Vassilief.

The jeweller became renowned for its design and manufacture of Queen Elizabeth II’s famous yellow and white diamond wattle brooch – presented to her from the government and people of Australia on her first visit to the country in 1954.

Affordable jewellery is the big attraction at Leonard Joel’s next jewellery auction from 5pm Friday June 1 at 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.
Most of the rings on offer carry estimates of less that $3000 and would make the ideal special gift for a loved one.
Some are quite unusual like the three stone diamond ring (lot 2) estimated at $2600, the diamond ring suite (lot 4 - $2800), and the pair of diamond hoop earrings (lot 6 - $2600).
Other jewellery items include a champagne diamond ring (lot 13 - $1700) and a pair of diamond stud earrings (lot 14 - $800).

Melbourne antique industry stalwart Graham Geddes has finally called it a day after 50 years in the business and stepped down as head and director of Graham Geddes Antiques in favour of his two daughters, Lil and Liv.
As a result, Christian McCann Auctions has been asked to auction Geddes entire stock on site at his antique shop at 883 High Street, Armadale over two days from midday Saturday May 19 and Sunday May 20.
Graham Geddes finally retiring from the business he had built up over half a century is a significant event.

A John Glover watercolour entitled Fishermen is one of the highlights of Kim’s Auctions latest sale from 11am Sunday April 29 on site at 711 Toorak Road, Kooyong.
Glover (1767-1849) was an English-born Australian artist known as the “father of Australian landscape painting”.
Arriving in Van Diemen’s Land (now Tasmania) on his 64th birthday with a strong reputation as a landscape painter, Glover is best known for his Tasmanian landscapes.
