Collectors chance to obtain rare first edition parliamentary books
More than 230 rare leather-bound first editions from Victorian and earlier times belonging to the Parliamentary Library of NSW are part of an online timed auction by Lawsons Auctioneers, which ends at 10am on Friday November 14.
The NSW Parliamentary Library, founded in 1840 as the Library of the Legislative Council of New South Wales, is Australia’s oldest continuously operating official research library.

Broinowski books entitled The Birds of Australia, dated 1890 and belonging to well-known Melbourne bird enthusiast the late Barbara Tunbridge, will be a major drawcard at Christian McCann’s forthcoming auction from noon Saturday November 9 at 426 Burnley Street, Richmond.
A recognised artist and leading ornithologist of his day, Broinowski was born in 1837 in Poland and 20 years later arrived at Portland, Victoria after swimming ashore from a windjammer following a trying journey from England.

Melbourne Cup auction to bring in racing fanatics
In the midst of this year’s Spring Racing Carnival, Mossgreen is holding its Melbourne Cup Auction, which, while it offers other sporting items, concentrates largely on horse racing memorabilia.
Given she remained unbeaten in all of her 23 starts, it is probably fitting that a painting of Black Caviar by Brett Jarrett is included among the auction items.
The auction will begin at 10am on Friday November 7 at 926-930 High Street, Armadale.

Built in 1892-3 for then Ballarat mayor and goldmine owner Isaiah Pearce and owned until recently sold by Dr Michael Stubbs, the home is historically significant because it is an innovative example of a transitional design between Victorian and Federation styles.

There are several dinner sets to be auctioned along with other Wedgwood and Royal Albert tea set items.
One of the more unusual exhibits is a pair of stuffed cobras fighting a mongoose, while the collection of wines and ports should appeal to wine collectors.
