A collection of antique Chinese scent bottles from Toorak-based collector the Honourable Joanna Stone is a major highlight of Christian McCann Auctions forthcoming sale from noon Sunday October 12 at 426 Burnley Street, Richmond.
Built up over many years, the collection features bottles of all shapes and sizes and will be a great find for any serious collector looking to add to his or her collection.
The auction features a major Sydney collection and includes rare 18th century Dutch marquetry furniture and an 18th century Dutch inlaid long case clock.

Victorian and reproduction furniture and a Collard & Collard boudoir grand piano are highlights of E.J. Ainger’s forthcoming weekly auction from 9.30am Tuesday October 7 at 433 Bridge Road, Richmond.
The auction features luxurious lounge furnishings, mirrors, Persian carpets, an exceptionally large French provincial style refectory table and a set of 12 dining chairs.
Other items of interest include paintings, graphics, a library of books, bronzes, watches, silver, glass and porcelain.

Arts Project Australia charity auction features well-known names
Arts Project Australia will hold a fundraising auction to celebrate its 40th anniversary from 3pm Sunday October 5 at Leonard Joel 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.
Based in Northcote, the organisation is a centre for excellence that supports artists with intellectual disabilities to become practitioners in the visual arts – and all the funds raised will be donated to Arts Project Australia to help continue its work.

Retro furniture to bring in sentimental auction goers
A range of retro 1950s and 1960s furniture should attract auction goers to Young’s Auctions latest weekly sale from 9.30am Friday October 3 at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.
The furniture includes a four-piece turquoise vinyl lounge suite comprising two settees that can convert to beds and two matching armchairs.
Other retro items of interest include a set of four red and white spotted vinyl dining chairs and a floor lamp.
Among the modern furniture on offer is an Italian Natuzzi leather lounge suite and brand new bedroom suites.

Coin auction a chance for modest punters
Mossgreen’s forthcoming Coins & Banknotes, Stamps & Postal History auction is a great opportunity for modest punters to dabble in the gold market without burning their fingers, according to Mossgreen director Charles Leski.
“The price of gold has dropped in recent times from $1850 an ounce to about $1200,” he said. “Normally, with the current unstable world situation, investors would initiate a run on gold – which hasn’t happened this time.”
As a result, the price of anything containing gold is down as much as 35-40 per cent compared with 10 years ago.

Antique rifles and pistols auction a collector's dream
A collection of antique rifles, pistols and flare guns are among the highlights of Young’s Auctions weekly sale from 9.30am Friday September 26 at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.
The collection includes an 18th century flintlock shotgun and 19th century percussion shotguns and rifles.
One of the rifles, an over/under percussion cap example is by well-known maker of the time Josh Golcher. Another is an antique Kentucky rifle with an octagonal barrel.

100 years of photographic history to go under hammer
More than 100 years of photographic history will be highlighted in Leonard Joel’s cameras and photography auction from noon Thursday September 25 at 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.
The oldest items on offer are 19th century hand painted magic lantern slides, then they proceed through the stereoscope era to what purists describe as the best 35mm camera ever made – the Leica M3.
According to objects, books and collectibles manager Sasa Mitic cameras are beginning to see a similar resurgence in popularity – similar to that currently being enjoyed by vinyl records.

Militaria from American Civil War part of military auction
Sixty lots of militaria from the 1850s to the 1940s – including items from the American Civil War, Boer War, World War I and World War II – will be auctioned by Leonard Joel from noon Thursday September 25 at 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.
Auction highlights include a Webley & Scott flare pistol and Turkish belt buckly believed to have been souvenired by Lieutenant Colonel Robert Rankine of the 14th Battalion AIF during World War I.
Leonard Joel sold his Gallipoli DSO, medal group and diary in May last year for $36,000 including buyers’ premium.

Menzies forthcoming Sydney auction will showcase a major Eugene von Guerard work entitled View of Hobart Town with Mount Wellington in the Background and painted in 1856.
This is 52 years after Hobart was founded and the painting, currently residing in a private Sydney collection, is a precisely detailed panoramic view of Tasmania’s State capital.
