Eclectic items in weekly auction
Leonard Joel has used the second of its Interiors & Jewellery weekly auctions for 2017 to present a comprehensive range of affordable items to auction goers.
The sale – covering furniture, jewellery, art salon and objects and collectables – begins at 10am Thursday February 2 at 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.
The auction features an eclectic mix of furniture, sculptures, Persian rugs, porcelain and jewellery.
Of particular note is a rare Tabriz superfine rug from Iran and a pair of Chesterfield Gascoigne leather wingback armchairs.

Affordable jewellery in first Leonard Joel auction for 2017
Leonard Joel welcomes in the New Year with the first of its Interiors & Jewellery weekly auctions – covering furniture, jewellery, art salon and objects and collectables – from 10am Thursday January 19 at 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.
A heart-shaped diamond dress ring, 14-carat gold sapphire and diamond eternity ring and nine-carat gold ruby and diamond ring are among the affordable jewellery items along with a pair of Cartier pearl trilogy earrings and Mikomoto pearl brooch set in 14-carat gold.

Furniture galore for final 2016 auction
An ornately carved Breton sideboard, French tables and armoires are among an extensive range of furniture at E.J.Ainger’s last auction for the year from 9.30am Tuesday December 20 at 433 Bridge Road, Richmond.
Other furniture to feature includes four door sideboards, occasional items and bedside cabinets alongside Australian cedar and English mahogany pieces - in particular a large reproduction leather top partner’s desk and a walnut cased upright piano.

Auction items fit for a queen
The cream brick veneer exterior – admittedly with magnificently manicured large lawns and gardens – belies the plushness of the interior at 14 Otway Street, Holland Park in Brisbane with furnishings to rival those seen in Buckingham Palace, according to Mossgreen’s antiques and decorative arts specialist Jennifer Gibson.
Many of the items to be auctioned – from 2pm Sunday December 18 – are fit for a queen, including a pair of William IV sterling silver Rococo Revival soup tureens made in 1835 by Henry Wilkinson and Co in Sheffield.

Leonard Joel is holding its final Interiors and Jewellery auction for 2016 on Thursday December 15 at 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.
The auction – in four parts covering furniture, jewellery, art salon and objects & collectables – begins at 10am, with the final session starting at noon.
Of particular note is a spelter figure of mounted horse rider and a French Champleve mantle clock.
Among the jewellery is an aquamarine and diamond pendant along with a Colombian emerald and diamond ring.

Collector waves an auction goodbye to his European antiques
Some of the finest European antiques Australian collectors have ever seen will go under the hammer at Mossgreen’s forthcoming auction from 6pm Wednesday December 14 at 926-930 High Street, Armadale.
The antiques belong to Mark Koronowicz who for more than 20 years ran an antique shop under his own name in High Street, Prahran and has now decided to move onto a new venture.

Centuries old banknote discovered inside auction sculpture
A rare 700-year-old banknote discovered by Mossgreen specialists inside an ancient Chinese sculpture will be a major drawcard to the auction house’s sale of The Raphy Star Collection of Important Asian Art from 6.30pm Sunday December 11 at 36-40 Queen Street, Woollahra in Sydney.
The banknote was found inside the head of the large wooden sculpture Luohan – a Chinese word for a ‘perfected person’ or one who has reached Enlightenment.

Antique timepieces among auction treasures
Collectors have the chance to pick up exhibition antique timepieces at Christian McCann Auctions forthcoming sale from noon Sunday December 11 in the palatial mansion at 32 Albany Road, Toorak.
The timepieces include a world-class boulle bracket clock on a pedestal – along with gilt bronze and bronze clock sets, carriage clocks and a rare Dutch 18th century longcase clock.
The auction contains a fine collection of French antique furniture including ormolu mounted boulle salon pieces, Kingwood marquetry and carved giltwood items, and French provincial furniture.

Unusual collections attract auction buyer interest
The estate of engineer, pastoralist, cattle breeder and discerning antiques collector Stanley Stevens is one of two fascinating collections to be auctioned by E.J. Ainger from noon Sunday December 11 at 433 Bridge Road, Richmond.
Born in November 1920 in Melbourne, Crawford and his first wife Constance began their collection in the 1950s – concentrating on Chinese and English porcelain, Georgian silver, furniture and Australian and European art.

Olympic torches light up a memorabilia auction
Torches that carried the Olympic flame for every Olympic Games from 1936 to 2012 are part of the extensive Martin Sheppard collection of Olympic and other sporting memorabilia to be auctioned by Leonard Joel from 2pm Thursday December 8 at 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.
Catalogue estimates for the torches vary from $5000-$7000 for the 1980 Moscow Games torch to $20,000-$25,000 for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics beacon.
Melbourne’s 1956 Olympic Games torch carries a $15,000-$20,000 estimate while the 2000 Sydney Olympics flame is a comparatively modest $6000-$8000.
