Auction unites two leading players in 1983 America's Cup victory
Two leading players in Australia’s 1983 America’s Cup victory – Alan Bond and Ben Lexcen – will be reunited posthumously through the auction of their private collections from 2pm Sunday October 23 by Mossgreen at the Western Australian Maritime Museum in Fremantle.
Lexcen was the designer and Bond the high profile businessman and owner of Australia II (with its secret weapon winged keel) that wrested the cup from the United States for the first time in the history of the event.

An album carrying historic photographs of the 1880 Melbourne International Exhibition is among a comprehensive collection of Australia’s involvement in trade exhibitions from 1851 to the advent of Expos in the mid-20th century that will be auctioned by Mossgreen from 1pm Tuesday October 18 at 926-930 High Street, Armadale.
The collection belongs to John Lancaster, whose involvement in organised philately stretches back 40 years.

Some of the more interesting items include a circa 1905 naval commander’s dress uniform with Queen Victoria buttons once belonging to T.E.J. Bigg and a 61-centimtere long William Ricketts (1898-1993) pottery coolamon with applied kangaroos and an Aboriginal tribal elder.
