A range of modern furniture and collectables is among Leonard Joel’s latest Modern Design auction from 6.30pm Thursday April 6 at 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.
Among the highlights is a pair of Arne Jacobsen swan chairs for Fritz Hansen and an Italian ceiling light attributed to Arredoluce.
Of further interest to auction goers is a Jardan sectional storage unit, a mid-20th century Danish leather sofa and a cowhide chaise in the style of Le Corbusher.

Laverty art collection a true auction treasure
Deutscher and Hackett will auction part III of the Laverty Collection from 7pm Wednesday April 5 at the Cell Block Theatre, National Art School, Forbes Street, Darlinghurst in Sydney.
Passionate art collectors for many years, Colin and Liz Laverty’s collecting lives were turned upside down in 1988 when they attended the World Expo in Brisbane.
It was there they were captivated by a large group of Aboriginal Papunya Tula paintings on display.
Back in Sydney, they set about gaining as much knowledge as possible about Aboriginal art through books and catalogues.

The development of mail being carried by aeroplane and the significance of how individual letters came to be selected for the purpose as a historical narrative is largely revealed in the second auction of well-known Canberra collector Tom Frommer’s extraordinarily diverse aerophilately collection.
Mossgreen carried out the first auction in September last year and this time has divided the sale into three sections – international pioneer airmails, Australian aerophilately, and the airmails of Papua & New Guinea.

Valentine vases among auction highlights
Two large Valentine vases are among the highlights of Kim’s Auctions forthcoming on site sale at 15 Gardiner Road, Hawthorn from 11am Sunday April 2.
Owners of the large home have now moved overseas and all contents must be sold at the auction.
The 45-centimetre high vases come from the Valentine factory, founded in 1832 in the central Pyrenees town of Saint-Gaudens on the banks of the River Garonne.

White marble bust shows particular auction appeal
An unsigned sculptured white marble bust of a lady has particular appeal at E.J. Ainger’s forthcoming auction from 9.30am Tuesday March 21 at 433 Bridge Road, Richmond.
The bust joins seven life size bronze figures – bound to interest erstwhile collectors – along with the sculpture of an eagle and cement garden urns.
One of the more unusual aspects to this sale is a collection of about 40 New Guinea and Sepik River artefacts and carvings and an old industrial boot maker’s sewing machine.
