Huge Australian decorativew arts auction defies odds in pandemic world
Leski Auctions is optimistically defying the odds of the Australian Government COVID-19 pandemic restrictions with big sales to attract the allowed but severely limited number of in-room auction goers along with absentee, phone and online bidders.
Its latest effort – a Decorative Arts & Collectables auction from 10am Sunday June 28 at 727-729 High Street, Armadale – lists 912 lots covering a wide range of collectables from silver to international and decorative arts, furniture, paintings, jewellery, clocks and a Winston Churchill collection.

Gibson's cautiously opens doors for Melbourne art auction
Like several other Melbourne auction houses who are cautiously opening their doors to auction goers as COVID-19 pandemic restrictions ease throughout Australia, Gibson’s Auctions can now allow up to 20 people in its rooms at 885-889 High Street, Armadale for its forthcoming Australian Art and Photography sale from 6.30pm Monday June 15.
The remainder will be able to bid online, by telephone or through absentee bidding.

David Boyd estate paintings hit auction market
Works from the estate of Australian artist David Boyd – part of a family dynasty of painters and sculptures that included such notaries as father Arthur Merric Boyd and brother Arthur – will see the auction light of day for the first time when newly established auction house Artmarketspace holds its inaugural auction from 5pm Sunday June 14 at 409 Malvern Road, South Yarra.
With 49 paintings going under the hammer, this will be the largest single-owner collection of his works to ever go to auction and provides a rare opportunity for collectors.

An air of anticipation pervades Philips Auctions rooms at 47 Glenferrie Road, Malvern as staff eagerly await the start of their first live decorative arts auction since the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown swung into action mid-March and all sales suddenly ceased.
Up to 20 auction goers are allowed in the rooms at any one time with more able to join proceedings online or via absentee or telephone bidding from noon Sunday June 14.
One of the highlights is the catalogue front cover cloisonne Buddha (lot 88), a magnificent large scale bronzed copper probably Republic era piece.

Belgian antique dealers Eloy and Winifred Van Paridon are living testimony to the lengths collectors will go to find that next elusive bargain.
Avid attendees at auctions held in European castles, they often arose early for 4am sojourns to snow covered antique fairs – searching by torchlight for what might turn out to be increasingly valuable treasures.
Both have antiques in the blood for they are children and grandchildren of antique dealers, dating back to a time when dealing was totally different to today’s world.

However, given current concerns over the spread of the coronavirus throughout Australia, viewing will for this auction will be by appointment only.
One of the major features in this category is a yellow and white diamond dress ring (lot 519) with a catalogue estimate of $20,000-$25,000.

McCann Auctions is continuing its foray into online auctions during Australia’s coronavirus restrictions with another Melbourne sale scheduled for noon Sunday May 17 at 7 Harper Street, Abbotsford.
Once again, bidding will be online via the invaluable.com website with both viewing and collections only by appointment.
This sale is entitled Exceptional Timepieces, Art and Fine Antiques and features a range of excellent clocks, furniture, artwork, porcelain and sculptures bound to interest genuine collectors and buyers.

With Australia still operating under heavy restrictions following the hundreds of thousands of deaths and economic destruction worldwide caused by the coronavirus pandemic, Leski Auctions is the first of the Melbourne-based auction houses to hold a full-blown sporting memorabilia sale involving 716 lots – its biggest for many years.
The auction, from 12pm Sunday May 10 (Mothers’ Day) at 727-729 High Street Armadale, covers valued and historic football, cricket, billiards, boxing, golf, horse racing, tennis, motor sports and Olympic Games items.

Leski's timed online auctions give collectors excellent purchase power
Like several other Australian auction houses, Melbourne-based Leski Auctions has moved several of its sales to timed online auctions to help overcome government initiated lockdown restrictions implemented because of the current coronavirus pandemic.
At present, two are in this category – one a Stamps & Postal History sale that opened at 10am on. Wednesday April 22 and is due to finish from 10am on Monday May 4 – and the other a toy auction that will finish from 12pm on the same day.
