Early artefacts in Australian indigenous auction
Mossgreen’s 2015 annual sale of Australian Indigenous and Oceanic Art features many early artefacts including an important private collection of rare Australian indigenous shields, many of which date to the early 19th century.
Among the more important is an Albury broad shield (lot 56), collected in the 1870s by Albury-based John Mitchell, and the Dja Dja Wurrung broad shield (lot 57) picked up by George Kidman between 1852 and 1864.
English-born Kidman came to Australia during the 1850s gold rush and established a mining claim.

Geelong collector Danny Stevens is selling part of his antiques and vintage collection (with more to go in coming months) to buy a pink Cadillac – a dream purchase he has long cherished.
The auction, from 10am Sunday July 19 at 64 Urquhart Street Woodend, will be held by auctioneer Steve Graham.
Over the years, Stevens has bought much of his collection through Graham and is more than happy to use the auctioneer to help sell it.

Old time buyer purchased anything that took his auction fancy
Graeme Murrell was well known in the auction trade of western Victoria and south-eastern South Australia as an avid buyer of anything that took his fancy.
He focused particularly on vaseline, ruby and carnival glass – along with Victorian lamps and Royal Doulton ware – and in his later years was happy to help out where he could at Glenelg Auction Centre sales in Portland Victoria.
Murrell died recently and his collection of 624 items is being auctioned from 11am Saturday July 18 and Sunday July 19 at 109 Learmonth Street, Portland.

USS Constitution sails into an auction sunset
A model of the United States Navy wooden-hulled three-masted heavy frigate USS Constitution will be auctioned as part of Young’s Auctions latest weekly sale from 9.30am Friday July 10 at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.
Launched in 1798, Constitution is the world’s oldest commissioned naval vessel still afloat and is currently undergoing important restoration work at Charleston Navy Yard.
