Mossgreen auction a bankruptcy fire sale
Plant and machinery specialist Dominion Group has taken on the task of auctioning antique furniture, paintings and objets d’art from the former Mossgreen warehouse on site at 1 Torteval Place, Clayton from noon Thursday June 28.
The company took on the sale when liquidators BDO, appointed to oversee the winding up of Mossgreen Pty Ltd (which went into voluntary liquidation in December last year), abandoned the process.
The auction contains a comprehensive range of items including paintings and prints, objets d’art, books, chandeliers, and sports memorabilia.

A fine selection of furniture and collectables from Melbourne homes will ensure plenty of buyer interest in E.J Ainger’s forthcoming auction from 9.30am Tuesday June 26 at 433 Bridge Road, Richmond.
One of the highlights is a mahogany sideboard built by Davidson Bros from Aberdeen Scotland (lot 729) while another is the four-door breakfront display cabinet with bronze and ormolu mounts (lot 749).

A timely clock auction that waits for no one
As a 14-yer-old mechanic’s apprentice with a Collingwood-based garage, 83-year-old Australian great-grandfather Ken Hose always admired an American clock that hung on one of the walls.
Some years later, when the garage was scheduled for demolition, Ken rescued the clock and so began his lifelong passion for the mechanics and measurement of time.

Silver auction to set tongues wagging
A gilt aesthetic jug with goblets and tray is among a strong collection of sterling silver at Philips Auctions forthcoming sale from noon Sunday June 24 at 47 Glenferrie Road, Malvern.
With a catalogue estimate of $12,000-$14,000, the 1879 and 1882 set, complete with maker’s marks for Holland, Son & Slater of London and Birmingham’s Elkington & Co, features a straight-sided jug with a bamboo bracket handle and foliate mounts.
A magnificent George II sterling silver breadbasket made in 1744 in London with maker’s marks for Aymé Videau is another attraction.

Artists feeling good about auction sale
The entire stock of Feeling in Artists Gallery in Smith Street Collingwood, which closed four months ago, will be auctioned without reserve at Christian McCann Auctions forthcoming sale over two days from noon Saturday June 23 and continuing from the same time Sunday June 24 at 419 Burnley Street, Richmond.
The gallery items include a Brighton-based art collection, Chinese antique porcelain and French furniture.

Several large taxidermy pieces are a highlight of E.J. Ainger’s forthcoming auction from 9.30am Wednesday June 13 at 433 Bridge Road, Richmond.
Wrought iron garden furniture is another attraction including two garden gazebos, arbours, benches and gates.
There also is a large selection of wrought iron balustrades and architectural pieces, along with wrought iron planters and wrought iron and marble buffets and side tables.
The auction contains large wooden and cast iron courtyard doors and wooden planter shutters.

Chinese furniture makers show off auction wares
For more than 250 years, Chang Ming Lei’s family made furniture and designed buildings for the Chinese emperors of their day.
Located in Beijing, they were even lucky enough to make modifications to the magnificent Tiananmen Tower (initially built in 1417 during the Ming Dynasty) that takes pride of place in Tiananmen Square.
For the past 20 years, Chang Ming and his wife Mary have lived at 18 Stanhope Grove, Camberwell and are now moving back to China.

An exceptional black opal and diamond brooch (lot 65) by premier jeweller William Drummond & Co is the pick of Leonard Joel’s fine jewels auction from 6.30pm Monday June 4 at Hughendon Boutique Hotel 14 Queen Street, Woollahra in Sydney.
The jeweller became renowned for its design and manufacture of Queen Elizabeth II’s famous yellow and white diamond wattle brooch – presented to her from the government and people of Australia on her first visit to the country in 1954.

Affordable jewellery is the big attraction at Leonard Joel’s next jewellery auction from 5pm Friday June 1 at 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.
Most of the rings on offer carry estimates of less that $3000 and would make the ideal special gift for a loved one.
Some are quite unusual like the three stone diamond ring (lot 2) estimated at $2600, the diamond ring suite (lot 4 - $2800), and the pair of diamond hoop earrings (lot 6 - $2600).
Other jewellery items include a champagne diamond ring (lot 13 - $1700) and a pair of diamond stud earrings (lot 14 - $800).
