Melbourne estate auctions works by Archibald Prize winner
Seventeen paintings by Australian artist and 1933 Archibald Prize winner Charles Wheeler (1880-1977) from his own estate will be auctioned from 6.30pm Monday October 14 as part of Gibson’s Auctions Australian and International Art sale at 885-889 High Street, Armadale.
The paintings include a self-portrait (lot 3) painted during his student days and the Untitled (Mooring on the River Thames) (lot 16).

Photographer's life work on display at Melbourne auction
English-born climber, explorer and photographer Alfred Gregory (1913-2010) undoubtedly received his first big break when in 1953 he was chosen as a climbing member of the British team, led by John Hunt, to scale Mount Everest.
The team reached 8500 metres in support of Sir Edmund Hillary-Norgay Tenzig’s historic first successful summit attempt.

Gibson’s Auctions is marking its first anniversary in business with a two-day sale entitled The Winter Auction Series, which over three sessions from 1pm Monday August 5 and 11am Tuesday August 6 will offer a comprehensive 789-lot range of jewellery, antique furniture, porcelain, sculptures, clocks, art and other collectables.

Chinese snuff bottles and scrolls vie for attention at Melbourne auction
A single owner collection of more than 200 Chinese snuff bottles and a private South Australian collection of Chinese scrolls head Gibson’s forthcoming Estate & Collector auction from 10.30am Sunday October 14 at Level 1, 885-889 High Street, Armadale.
Many of the snuff bottles are painted on the inside of the glass – a fine decoration such as that featured in lot 92, a work of art ‘The Lan Ting Shu’ dated Beijing 1898 and Wuxian 1901 and attributed to Ding Erzhong – or are of an unusual shape such as lot 50, a 1974 sponge coral ‘iron tree’ example.
