Featured is English and Italian dining room furniture, several good quality leather and upholstered lounge suites and chairs.
There also is a pair of Australian cedar chests, a superb French style farm house table with eight matching high back chairs, parquetry coffee tables and English and French occasional furnishings.

Hairdressing guru and her love of antiques

Madame Verna Greene is probably one of the best-known names in world hairdressing and stylist circles who, when she died on November 1 last year aged 96, left an enduring legacy as a business pioneer, visionary and world judge.

While hairdressing was her life, so too was her magnificent home at Wonga Park (built in 1982 and decorated by the well-known interior designer Colin Bowman), filled with magnificent furniture and collectibles – much of it brought back from the United States.

Lladro figure to bring crowds to Aingers auction

A Lladro figure of a girl beside a drawing room chair should be a major drawcard for E.J Ainger Pty Ltd’s next auction from 9.30am on Tuesday at 433 Bridge Road, Richmond.

The sale features a large number of estate furnishings and includes English retro teak furniture along with Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian and 1920s furniture items.

Of particular note is a Scottish flame mahogany chest of drawers and bow end walnut display cabinet.

The auction also contains a pair of French spelter musicians, three French Louis XV-style fire fenders and a rocking horse.

Roger Bond The Marathon Man

The movie The Marathon Man could well have starred the late Roger Bond for he loved to run marathons. Even when he suffered a heart attack not long after he completed one in his late 60s and had to undergo open-heart surgery, he couldn’t wait to get back to competition.

Earlier this year at age 70, Roger Bond’s big heart finally gave up and he died of a heart attack at home sitting in his favourite chair.

Boyhood passion burned ever so brightly

Having two grandfathers who are respected antique dealers and silversmiths is bound to influence any young boy in his collecting habits.

Growing up in Worthing, England Graham Chismon was no exception. Although he studied accountancy and later practised at Monsanto in Melbourne, Mr Chismon’s passion for collecting continued to burn – particularly so after 1990 when his family had grown up. An eventual relocation to Victor Harbour in South Australia led to his appointment by Hamilton Museum as an expert in Rockingham porcelain.
