Queens Burmese glass to bring collectors running
About 70 pieces of rare Victorian Queens Burmese glass (hardly ever seen at auction) will be a major highlight of Christian McCann Auctions sale from noon Sunday July 13 at 426 Burnley Street, Richmond.
The Queens Burmese glass, belonging to collector Harold Price, sits among many fine examples of 18th and 19th century antique furniture, porcelain and art from major collections and more than 100 vendors and includes such delights as rare boulle furniture, temple vases and a carved walnut bedroom suite.

Unusual pottery figures to attract collectors
Pottery figures by Prahran artist Jenny Gibney feature in Young’s Auctions latest sale from 9.30am Friday July 11 at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.
The collection of female figures in period dress is bound to interest collectors, according to Young’s Auctions director Ian Young.
“She is a contemporary Australian pottery artist and they are quite unusual,” he said.
The auction contains more examples of Waterford crystal from a collector who has submitted champagne flutes, glasses and various other crystal creations each week for the past three weeks.

Melbourne artist works among strong auction attractions
Some of the works by well-know artist Jean Carson Gray (who died in 2012) will be part of Amanda Addams Auctions latest sale from 6.30pm Monday at 344 High Street, Kew.
Born in 1927, she completed a diploma in commercial art at what was then Swinburne Technical College, before finishing postgraduate studies in fine arts in Glasgow.
Back in Australia, Gray taught art at Victorian Arts and Geelong Grammar and from the mid-1960s regularly mounted regular exhibitions – with much of her work acquired by regional galleries throughout Victoria.

The Ashes birthplace gives up its treasures
After more than seven years, Margaret McLelland is retiring as the managing director and custodian of Rupertswood Mansion – birthplace of The Ashes – and handing it back to its owners The Salesian Order Victoria to run.
During this time, Rupertswood gained an enviable reputation as a boutique bed and breakfast and reception centre.
Many of the items currently in the old mansion at 3 Macedon Street, Sunbury will be auctioned from 11am Saturday July 5 and Sunday July 6 by Glenelg Auctions.

The Cammack collection - global items for the enterprising collector
Norman Lindsay’s The Introduction – full of the artist’s classic nudes and suggestions – will be a major highlight of Dr Bill Cammack and his wife the late Dr Eileen Cammack’s collection to be auctioned from 1pm Saturday July 5 and Sunday July 6 by Lawsons at Menzies Gallery, 12 Todman Avenue, Kensington in Sydney.
With a catalogue estimate of $120,000-$150,000, the oil painting is an example of Norman Lindsay at his best – featuring the familiar sumptuous Ruben-esque goddesses waiting idly for their potential suitors to greet them.

African and Papua New Guinean masks, bowls and statues join Australian Aboriginal didgeridoos as features for Young’s Auctions latest sale from 9.30am Friday July 4 at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.
The collection, which includes travel books and hats from all parts of the world, belongs to vendors who travelled extensively during their working life.
The auction contains more Waterford crystal (including toasting flutes, carafes, clock, dolphin and harp) from the same vendor who auctioned several quality pieces last week.

Owned by passionate collectors Malcolm and Heather McInnes (related to famous seven-time Archibald Prize winner William McInnes), the auction features a comprehensive collection of Victorian furniture, glassware, art and 18th and 19th century French porcelain.

Waterford crystal one out of the box
A Waterford crystal vase that has never been taken out of the box are among the more interesting items to feature in Young’s Auctions weekly sale from 9.30am Friday June 27 at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.
The crystal includes a vase (complete with its retail price o f$1195 still attached) and pairs of toasting flutes.
Most unusual is a moose antler in which a Canadian artist has carved grizzly bears and a whale vertebra carved to look like an Eskimo beating a drum.

Furniture and objects from the 1950s to the 1990s by several leading 20th century designers will be the highlight of Leonard Joel’s latest modern design auction from noon on Thursday at 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.
Works by such names as Grant Featherston (1922-1995) and Marc Newson will undoubtedly whet the appetite of auction goers who will have a rare opportunity to add to their designer collections.
Leonard Joel has held modern design auctions since 2012 – sales they only conduct twice a year.
