Several interesting oil paintings, jewellery, English sterling silver and plated ware, brass and copper are some of the highlights of E.J.Ainger’s latest weekly sale from 9.30am Tuesday September 2 at 433 Bridge Road, Richmond.

The auction includes items procured from private Melbourne homes and estates including English, French and Australian furniture.

Of interest to auction goers will be mahogany bookcases and chests, bureaus, dining tables and gilded mirrors.

Neil Fletcher has had two major passions in life.

One is photography – and he spent his early adult life (from 1975-1985) building Fletcher Fotographics, a chain of 54 stores in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia before, in his forties, falling foul of the Australian Taxation office following the change to duty-free laws and having the business sold out from under him.

Brought up on a farm about 50 kilometres north of Wagga Wagga, radio collector Alan Higman is a country boy at heart with a practical nature.

“The first valve radio I collected I discovered as a youngster in a back lane in Wagga Wagga because the owners were throwing out,” he says. “It was a 1937 Switchon – a brand I have not seen since – still working and went ahead and restored it.”

Alan first became interested in collecting radios when he befriended a ham radio operator at school and listened to other amateur operators from all parts of the world.

Antique and retro furniture, collectibles, paintings, decorative furnishings and jewellery will be among strong attractions at E.J. Ainger’s forthcoming weekly sale from 9.30am Tuesday August 26 at 433 Bridge Road, Richmond.

The items have been removed from homes and estates in Malvern, Toorak and Hawthorn or are part of a container load from England.
