A gold “Wig” ring by Cartier and a Serpenti diamond ring by Bvlgari are two rare signed items to feature in Leonard Joel’s jewellery auction from 6pm Monday at 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.

These items are accompanied by prestige wristwatches from designers such as Breitling, Frank Muller and Faberge.

The auction contains rare antique jewellery pieces including an emerald and diamond pendant, along with South sea pearls, gold and a wide selection of diamonds.

Auction goers looking to purchase luxury decorative items should check out Leonard Joel’s on site contents auction of 16 St Georges Road, Toorak from noon Sunday.

The sale will provide auction goers with their fill of crystal, marble, leather, silk, gilt and baroque elegance as soon as they walk through the front entrance.

Particularly impressive are the leather Chesterfield lounges and armchairs, the gilt overmantel mirrors, the bronzes, marble urns, the Chinese-style porcelain covered vases and the silk cashmere floor rugs.

Some of Australia’s leading artists will be represented at Leonard Joel’s fourth specialist print auction for this year when more than 100 works go under the hammer from 11.30am on Thursday November 14 at 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.

Leonard Joel introduced the specialist print auction concept in 2010 to highlight a relevant section of the art market that has largely been overlooked.

Since its introduction, the specialist print auction has become increasingly popular particularly among newcomers to the art market.

Leonard Joel has been appointed by the Anderson family to dispose of the John Anderson Brown Collection built up over more than 50 years at the historic stately home Norrac, 23 View Street, Hawthorn.

Restoration of the manor, which had been built in 1881 for timber merchant James Wright, was a labour of love for Richmond real estate agent John and the late Roman de Kimpe, proprietor of the South Yarra salon Noisette and Australian distributor for the French perfumery Guerlain, who together purchased the property in 1964.

A set of Eames chairs and marble top table brought to Australia for the 1958 World Chess Championships, and in a private collection since 1997, will be a major drawcard at Leonard Joel’s Modern + Traditional auction from noon Sunday at 12 Smith Street, Collingwood. 

Another interesting aspect is the rubber caricature puppets of major political figures of the past 30 years including former Queensland premier the late Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen, former ALP leader Bill Hayden, former Liberal leader Andrew Peacock and former Victorian Premier John Caine.

A Linus Onus painting of cross-hatched frogs and a large Tommy Watson painting will be among highlights of a range of Aboriginal art and artefacts to be auctioned from 6.30pm Thursday by Leonard Joel at 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.

The sale features a collection of far north Queensland artefacts gifted to the late Dr Tim O’Leary while he was a Flying Doctor in the 1950s and 1960s.

Of particular note is the bull-roarer with a female torso carved into it.

An assortment of vintage die cast and tinplate toy vehicles from throughout the world at Leonard Joel’s latest monthly toy auction should whet the appetite of even the most discerning collector when they go under the hammer from noon Thursday at 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.

One of the rarer items is the promotional Dinky 274 ‘Joseph Mason Paint’ mini van, along with a W&R Jacob biscuit manufacturers van from Models of Yesteryear, bulldozers, cranes, tankers and military vehicles.

A pair of Manolo Blahnik cobalt blue shoes with diamond feature buckles – similar to those worn by Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) for her wedding to Mr Big in the movie Sex in the City – will be a ragingly popular highlight for Leonard Joel’s pre-owned luxury auction from 1pm on Thursday at 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.

The auction also contains several Georg Jensen creations including a jewellery suite, a pair of cuff links and a ring.

Most people wouldn’t remember the name Fred Samuel.

However, they would know the heart shaped ruby and diamond necklace worn by Julia Roberts in the film Pretty Woman.

More recently, the name Fred was associated with Kate Moss for the design of an exclusive jewellery collection.

Fred had a hand in both – or more correctly the company he founded following the first store he opened in Paris in 1936 at age 28.

Born in to a family of jewellers, Fred created a style of jewellery that was prestigious, creative and liberated from tradition.

A Pro Hart mural featuring the history of South Australia is the major feature of Leonard Joel’s fine art auction from 6.30pm Monday at 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.

Entitled The South Australian Mural and measuring six by 1.5 metres, the oil on canvas comprises four panels and was painted in 1993.

The work is accompanied by a stand with an illustrated legend, was commissioned by the Myer Centre, Adelaide and is the largest Pro Hart artwork to be permanently exhibited in South Australia.
