Mossgreen is holding its Spring Auction Series from 10.30am Tuesday at 926 High Street, Armadale

The auction is in two parts – Chinese and Asian arts to start, and from 2.30pm Australian and European art and antiques.

Former Sotheby’s Australia founding CEO and chairman (1982-1998) Robert Bleakley has included several items from his private collection, the highlight being a rare and exceptional 15th century early Ming Dynasty Chinese gilt bronze seated figure of Mahakala, Defender of the Faith.

Another of his items the 18th/early 19th century polychrome bronze figure of the elephant-headed deity Makaramukha Dakini.

A larger than life size Chinese polychrome stucco head of 14th century Guanyin, Yuan Dynasty, is another major drawcard, while a 19th century Qing Dynasty Chinese court summer robe from the Dr Francis Burden collection will bring plenty of admirers.

An unusual item is the large 18th/19th century Tibetan Thanka polychrome and gilt on cloth featuring 28 confessional seated Buddhas.

A standout is the Auguste Rodin untitled centaur and maiden bronze believed to be one of his unrecorded works and given to Roma Fairley by British dance critic Arnold Haskell in the 1960s.

Next Saturday from 2pm-4pm a panel of art professionals will discuss the place art has in the environment and vice versa at Shona Wilson’s latest exhibition opening at Mossgreen.
