Egyptian antiquities provide special auction appeal

An Egyptian limestone carved figure of a human Pharaoh headed sphinx from the Ptolemaic period 300BC-30BC join several other Egyptian antiquities at Kim’s Auctions forthcoming sale from 11am Sunday June 26 at 327-329 Warrigal Road, Burwood.

The other antiquities include two faience amulets and one faience New Year’s pilgrim flask from the late to Ptolemaic period 600-BC-300BC and two Greek silver tetradrachms of Alexander the Great 336BC-323BC.

The amulets depict Ureus the Royal Cobra and the god Isis with baby horns.

The auction contains a range art, antiques, porcelain and bronze including a 19^th century French ormolu clock with wall stand and an 1860s rosewood inlaid grandfather clock.

Among the French antique furniture is a magnificent ormolu boulle centre table with matching fold over card table featuring a serpentine front and owned by the same vendor for more than 40 years.

Other French furniture items include a 19^th century Sevres porcelain mounted bureau cabinet with porcelain miniatures, a Napoleonic period kingwood and floral marquetry salon cabinet, a kingwood parquetry inlaid music cabinet and a 19^th century burr walnut small bureau.

The large collection of porcelain and bronze features a 1910 neo-classical Loetz glass bowl on a brass base.

Other items in this category include a pair of signed French bronze cavalier figures, a large 19^th century two handled marble urn on a pedestal, a 19^th century French Faience lidded exhibition vase. 

There are several vase pairs including French porcelain lidded vases and 19^th century Sevres marked urns.

An important 19^th century French sculpted bronze figure “Muse des Bois” is another attraction along with three large Sevres plates.

One of the more unusual items is a bone carved country scene with pagoda by the famous Chinese sculptor Ming Huie Zhang, bought in 1969 from a Japanese villa by an Austrian buyer.

Another interesting attraction is a pair of bronze ormolu candelabra with Sevres inserts.

Among the Australian paintings is Bill Coleman’s Taking a Break, David Bromley’s Hillary, Evan Mackley’s Still Life, Pro Hart’s Man – Bush Landscape, John Borrack’s Central Australian Landscape and Kate Smith’s Sipping a Cocktail.
