Rare militaria among auction treasures

Two rare 1876 and 1886 big game Winchester rifles are among a strong selection of militaria items at Glenelg Auctions forthcoming sale from 10.30am Sunday August 23 at 109 Learmonth Street, Portland.
The auction features a rare Japanese warlord’s 1470s matchlock musket (catalogue estimate $4750-$4995) and three American Civil War carbines.
Other fascinating antique firearms include a Remington cartridge conversion revolving rifle ($6500-$7500 estimate) and a cased pair of goldminers percussion pistols.
There is a range of Japanese, German and English World War I and II swords, bayonets, helmets, caps, medals and badges – including a Japanese Kyu Gunto sword (estimate $3950-$4225).
The auction also contains cast iron and tin toys, kitchenalia, early Greek and Roman coins, stamps, costume jewellery, whalebone scrimshaws and other collectables.
