Contemporary furniture for auction goers

Contemporary furniture – including a pair of English Chesterfield brown leather settees and matching wingback chair and stool – will be a great drawcard for buyers looking for home furnishings at Young’s Auctions latest weekly sale from 9.30am Friday August 21 at 229 Camberwell road, East Hawthorn.

Other contemporary items include a Kawai black gloss upright piano and a contemporary timber dining table y Natural Selections in excellent condition.

The auction also features Oriental cabinets and tables and antique furniture including a French walnut armoire and English flame mahogany chest of drawers.

Unusual items include two Aboriginal bark paintings and a 1920s French aluminium lolly display stand with eight original jars each with Bakelite lids.

The auction contains Remued pottery and pre-decimal mint stamps along with several crystal and jewellery items.

Remued was a line of pottery dating from the early 1930s to the mid-1950s.

The name has become associated with its characteristic drip-glaze style but the term really only belongs to pieces made by Premier Pottery Preston.

These days, the pottery is highly collectable and ranges from small, simple, easy to find inexpensive pots to rare decorated pieces worth thousands of dollars.
