Estates to bring auction goers to first sale for the year

Estate Japanese and Chinese furniture should be worth auction goers making the trip to Portland Victoria for Glenelg Auctions first sale for 2015 from 10.30am on Sunday January 11.

The huge clearance auction of 1600 lots will be held at 109 Learmonth Street, Portland and features art, fine furniture, porcelain, glassware, rugs, clocks and silver.

Other furniture to consider includes Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian cedar, mahogany, oak, walnut, blackwood, and Huon and Kauri pine items such as 25 dining tables, 31 sets of dining chairs (from four to 12 settings) 24 sideboards, 11 wardrobes, 32 chests of drawers and 12 dressing tables.

The auction contains works by leading Australian artists including Albert Namatjira, Hugh Sawrey, David Boyd, Ernest Buckmaster, Pro Hart, S.T. Gill, J.A. Turner, Cathleen Edkins, Ray Crooke, David Bromley, Harold Septimus Power, B.E. Minns, Leonard Long, Salli Herman, Follen Bishop and Rubery Bennett.

There is a pair of Royal Worcester vases with highland cattle scenes by Harry Stinton and an outstanding Moorcroft Clematis vase, along with other English porcelain examples.

For wine buffs, the auction offers bottles of Penfolds Grange, VAT 707 and St Henri.
