Ross Allan estate in spring auction series

Mossgreen’s Spring Auction Series will feature the late Ross Allan’s estate as part of a two-day auction from 10.30am Monday November 17 at 126 High Street, Armadale and continuing the following day.

The Ross Allan estate comprises Session 2, which begins at 2pm.

Originally from Sydney, Ross Allan developed a love of style, charm and grace from an early age, which eventually manifested itself in an extensive porcelain collection long before it became popular in Australia.

By this stage, Mr Allan had moved to Melbourne, which he loved for its European style even before his first visit to the northern hemisphere.

Collecting porcelain was not his only passion and he also became interested in watercolours, glass, snuffboxes and jewellery.

This last interest was fanned further by the fact he spent many decades working as a designer for Melbourne’s great jewellery businesses, William Drummond and Kozminsky, refining his skills and eye for beauty as the years passed.

At the same time, Mr Allan was assembling a collection of rare quality and distinction, concentrating essentially on items from France and England.

The auction reflects his broad collecting tastes with items bound to interest many of his fellow collectors and first time buyers.
