Significant Australian artist works in affordable art auction

Melbourne-based Gibson’s Auctions is giving art lovers and those looking to enter the market for the first time the opportunity to pick up works by significant Australian artists at its timed Winter Art Online auction to be held from 10am Monday June 20 at 885-889 High Street, Armadale.

The paintings and editions, all with estimates in the several hundreds of dollars range, feature such luminaries as Sidney Nolan (1917-1992), Clarice Beckett (1887-1935), Anne Hall, Pro Hart (1928-2006) and Louis Kahan (1905-2002).

Typical is Beckett’s Bay Road Beaumaris (lot 110) which is among several of her works in the auction.

Another is Hart’s Flowers (lot 8) and The Country Race Meeting 1980 (lot 51). Nolan features with Inferno III 1967 (lot 31) while Anne Hall has The Student 1967 (lot 32) and Kahan Seated Nude in Reflection (lot 167).

Leon Hanson (1918-2011) is another Australian artist of note who has a couple of works worth considering including Morning Light, Melbourne (lot 58) and Collins Street, Melbourne (lot 60).

Several eye-catching works by New Zealand artist Dalene Meiring including Friendship (lot 25) are notable along with those by Drew Gregory such as his oil on canvas entitled Hay Shed at Wangaratta 1973 (lot 192).

The Quarry Site 1987 by Greg Allen (lot 12) is another interesting work, while Jill Noble’s Storm Looming 1988 (lot 2), Alan Sartori’s Murray Reflections 1986 (lot 200) and John Duncan Firth’s Serenity 1974 (lot 222) are all worth a look.
