E.J. Ainger Pty Ltd has enthusiastically joined the ranks of Melbourne auction houses gratefully opening up after months of COVID-19 Stage 4 lockdown with a two-day online auction from 9am Monday November 9 and Tuesday November 10.
Although Aingers expects most auction goers to lodge absentee bids or bid over the phone or online, some will be permitted to attend the sale live in accordance with current Victorian Government restrictions.
Viewing is from 10am-4pm Friday and Saturday with visitor names recorded and mask wearing mandatory.
A major highlight of the first day is lot 179, a 1960s Danish Kai Kristiansen-designed rosewood desk with a catalogue estimate of $2500-$3500, and lot 197, a nine-piece oriental ebonised and burr elm dining suite.
A decorative Chinese cabinet on a stand (lot 206) is another attraction, along with a pair of contemporary scarlet Boulle style bombe shaped ormolu mounted marble top pier cabinets (lot 210) and a green Chesterfield leather settee with matching ottoman (lot 225).
Day two attractions include a Noritake wild ivy pattern china dinner service (lot 433) and a signed John Loxton (1903-1969) Spring Street, Melbourne watercolour.
Born in Adelaide, Loxton studied at the National Gallery School in Melbourne and at Swinburne Technical College. A noted watercolourist, he exhibited widely in 1956 in the Qantas Gallery, London.
