Australian Galleries will show Jock Clutterbuck’s Ontology Exhibition in November and December at 35 Derby Street, Collingwood.
A sculptor and printmaker of national significance, Clutterbuck is known for his sophisticated abstract forms executed with precision and detail, while still maintaining an impression of underlying esoteric mysticism.
Both his sculptures and works on paper draw on cartouche like arrangements with a demarcated outer perimeter and a graphic boundary of containment for the pictograms within.
Even though he has explored similar themes for decades Clutterbuck’s new work continues to evolve as fresh new examples of the harmony between ideas and solid form.
Of the new works for Ontology Clutterbuck says,
My preoccupation with these recent works is to reach backwards, as it were, into an ancient shared collective aesthetic. Beyond words and language to the realms of silent possibilities where the simple forces of beauty and presence are a touchstone to enliven our sense of what it is to be human.
In conjunction with this exhibition is a new release from Macmillan Art Publishing and Australian Galleries Publishing, The Art of Jock Clutterbuck.
It brings together the oeuvre of renowned Australian artist Jock Clutterbuck in a beautiful full colour publication with works spanning from the 1960’s to today. The book includes a full monograph of Clutterbuck’s extensive print work and significant illustrations of his sculpture output including several public commissions.
The exhibition will run from Tuesday November 19 until Sunday December 8 and is open each day from 10am to 6pm.
